Heya everyone! We (pidgin) are happy to announce that our next State of the Bird will be October 14th at 9:00 PM UTC!! You can find more information about it in our blog post! pidgin.im/posts/2021-10-state-

"I sent you an OMEMO encrypted message but your client doesn’t seem to support that."

Ever seen this sad story in #XMPP land? But your client does support #OMEMO? Such issues can be tricky to debug sometimes.

We just published a new #Prosody module, mod_debug_omemo. It adds a unique link to the end of these messages. When opened, it will reveal OMEMO debug info that can help identify why the message couldn't be decrypted.

Thanks to @zash for some last-minute testing and fixes 🙂

I just submitted the second XEP ("Moved 2.0") related my work on the #XMPP account migration project. Both this and the XEP-0227 update I submitted a few weeks ago are now going through the XMPP standards process.

The next stage of the project is the exciting one! Over the next couple of months I will be working on implementing these new protocols, and producing the initial software to help people migrate their data between services.

So thankful for the support of #NGI DAPSI! ❤️

Heya everyone! At 20:00 UTC (about an hour and a half) I'll be giving the first Pidgin State of the Bird since 2017. I'll be discussing the state of the project, it's near term future, and even taking question! So check it out on my twitch channel at twitch.tv/rw_grim/. A video will be available afterwards in case you can not attend the live event.

@tails to be more clear.. I don't care that you're moving away from pidgin. It sucks, but it's your choice. What I have issues with, if it wasn't clear already, is that you're saying my project has security issues but you won't tell me what they are so I can't fix them. You (tails) have created a self fulfilling prophecy and are essentially being malicious.. Something I would hope tails would be very aware of.

@tails easy... justify statements like this "Tails natively ships with a client. Currently Pidgin.
For security reason Tails is going to replace it." There's literally no reason given in this toot or in the gitlab page that was linked as to what the security issues are. If you/tails have legitimate security issues, disclose them responsible so that everyone can be made safer. Hoarding them and using them to call other projects insecure isn't good for anyone.

Fuck Facebook.

I don't wanna argue with random YouTube commenters about why Facebook owning and meddling with Oculus is bad, and why being an original Kickstarter backer is relevant to that argument. :blobcatsad:

The fact of the matter is, even if they didn't sell any consumer builds of the hardware before the Facebook takeover, I personally, and literally hundreds of other early VR videogame developers, sunk a significant investment of development costs into the original two dev kits and their hardware drivers,

only to have the rug pulled out from under us as a walled garden suddenly appeared at the last moment and we were forced to upgrade our drivers and sell in their market or get out, basically?

No? myaa, come on. I'm on Linux, I paid hundreds of dollars for VR hardware, and I can't even use it because of commercial interests and spyware.

OH: Making JIRA look bad is sorta like beating a fish in pole vaulting

OH: JIRA is categorized as a human rights violation by the UN

Happy New Year everyone! Come join us on stream as we welcome in the new year while swapping out our kubernetes ingress controller and hopefully not breaking anything!! twitch.tv/rw_grim

Hey everyone! Tonight we're going to be working on a new jetbrains youtrack importing tool so I can migrate my stuff from bitbucket. So come on by and say hi! twitch.tv/rw_grim

It might not look like much.. But this screen shot has been a little over a year in the making! This is the development version of Pidgin 3
with webkit1 finally completely removed. The replacement widgets aren't to feature parity yet, but they work with only a few bugs! PR TBA

If you fall on this TOOT and are passionate about #openSource #openHardware #decentralizedInternet and disruptive ideas on how do we figure out a solution to #fixtheWeb, I laid down a first version of the ideas and thought that would help and make it happen. Make it yours!

People often wonder why printers are so cantankerous but frankly any device that embeds pigmented runes in the remains of long-dead trees is going to be stricken by an ancient faerie curse from the start
