OK we need to stop with the argument : "we can't block trackers because then the web won't work anymore." I have been using Brave, Firefox (with Privacy Badger & HTTPS Everywhere), Samsung Internet with Disconnect (& built in tracking protection) & Safari (with Better blocker and 3rd party cookies disabled) for years now. I can report: the web works mostly fine without the tracking. In fact, it's great.
not lazy enough, apparently.
Hey, #Keybase users: If you'd like to see Mastodon support in Keybase (which is just *perfect* in a federated network to verify people) and have a GitHub account: make sure to voice your wish, +1ing this comment on the related issue. That might make it happen!
mastodon NEEDS to remove the federated timeline oh my god. there is no point to browsing a public timeline besides harassing people and spam. mastodon is NOT a private club anymore. there's a reason why twitter removed the public timeline feature when it started getting bigger. there is no upside to it. this is what following people is for
Mastodon meta social media politics bullshit
@kadybat My frustration with the "CW selfies" thing is that women and girls are constantly criticized for taking them and over here we're encouraged to literally hide them.
I understand the arguments for the CW, but this doesn't feel like a good tradeoff. I don't have an answer, though.
If you're thinking about making a new instance, keep in mind that there are plenty of instances full of alt-right sadboys. But here, you can do something about them by blocking those instances from yours.
I have a list that I keep regularly updated, and it documents a lot of examples of the kinds of things people and admins say on an instance, and I deconstruct common bigoted dogwhistles and conspiracy theories!
