Some people seem to think the project is abandoned and you have to 'move on' to forkXYZ.

It's not abandoned.
FLOSS projects are mostly done in people's free time, so other things can (periodically) take precedence.
And that's exactly what happened here:
"Currently I have no free time to spend on youtube-dl as I'm busy with work, ongoing renovation and other post-relocation stuff."

At least some people wondered whether the maintainer was OK ...

Ex: python (scapy) script for Pinephone to demo basis of individual wifi trackers that surround us.

Tapping a 'radar' button I illustrated opens terminal setting Pinephone WiFi into sniffing mode.

Pinephone's wifi collects "turned on" WiFi devices closeby labelling each by their model's brand name/RSSI & includes those device's list of saved SSID's (this can be used to track their wifi location history) #Privacy

+ it offers prompt using cellular to do wigle SSID location lookups.

Stop Firefox from sending keystrokes to Mozilla:

* Menu > Settings > Privacy & Security
* Scroll down to “Address Bar - Firefox Suggest”
* Disable “Contextual suggestions”
* Disable “Include occasional sponsored suggestions”

Or switch to LibreWolf: librewolf-community.gitlab.io

Some interesting offers for flamewar topics below :) In the last two years we have build an all-Rust modern e-mail stack, with mime/pgp/smtp/imap handling sorted and mostly available as separate crates to build on.

RT @warpfork@twitter.com

probably gonna start an interesting flamewar here

Looks like active development of #OpenKeychain has ceased: "WARNING: This software is no longer actively developed. We will still apply security fixes where reported, and do basic maintenance work, but no new features or will be worked on. We will try to consider and merge contributions where possible." Source github.com/open-keychain/open-
There are no other viable alternatives available for general use on #Android. Guess we need someone to take over. 😕

From Drew DeVault's blog,
"In praise of PostgreSQL":

"After 25 years of persistence, and a better logo design, Postgres stands today as one of the most significant pillars of profound achievement in free software, alongside the likes of Linux and Firefox. PostgreSQL has taken a complex problem and solved it to such an effective degree that all of its competitors are essentially obsolete, perhaps with the exception of SQLite."

90% of donations to the @libreoffice projects are coming from individuals.
Companies unfortunately do not contribute that much in economical or material way on an #OpenSource project that is the major barrier between freedom of choice and a full monopoly by Microsoft in the office productivity market.

Organisations should realise that a strong LibreOffice helps in creating a healthy competition and lower also their costs.

So, please, contribute in any way you can to help yourself.

Answer: try to use a navigation program indoors. You won't get signals from enough satellites, so if you immediately get an approximate location it works.

Had to install #microG with Magisk, by the way.

This weekend I have installed #LineageOS (with #microG) on a #Samsung Galaxy #S10e for my SO. It is insane how much longer the battery lasts compared to Samsungs stock ROM (#OneUI 3.1). 🤯 Even after a factory reset you could basically watch the battery drain while doing nothing else. Well, now I have got an idea why the previous owner sold this device. 🙈

Next week, Collaborans will be giving with 7 talks (!) at OSSummit + ELC, on topics including #Rust build scripts, #embedded deep learning on #GStreamer, #HEVC decoding on mainline #Linux, #PipeWire & WirePlumber, #Debian & consumer devices, and more! See you there? col.la/oss21

@danny @XxAlexXx we use the Mastodon ToS.

There’s no such thing as a private message in mastodon. They’re DIRECT, not PRIVATE. Everything can be read from the database (although we don’t) if someone reports a DM, we need to be able to see it though, that’s the rationale.

If you wanna send something private, don’t use Masto, be it Fosstodon or any other instance.

Do any fedi friends have access to a theological library?

I'm trying to find someone to help me get a photocopy of a page or two from this book:

openlibrary.org/works/OL271987

It allegedly contains a photo of a cuneiform tablet which records history's oldest joke.

As a clown, I need a copy. :)

I'm also interested in having a copy of the book, though it seems to be looooooong out of print.

Any help, including boosts, appreciated!

I wish Mastodon gave you more options to sort your timeline.

I would like the ability to add lists. For example I'd probably create a list for news to keep track of accounts that post a lot or their news articles.

That way they don't clog up the timeline.

Anyone else feel the same way?
