I've got good news for you! Enterprise S02 is no longer the worst Star Trek!

BRB, taking a sip of water and then checking in on how my Werewolf Stonks are doing today ****pfffffffffftttttttttt****
@jwz I haven't gotten around to seeing section 31 yet.
Somehow, this review has sold it to me harder. ;)
@jwz omg that Cat Pictures Please storyline looks amazing, how had I not heard of this until now?
@codinghorror @jwz oh yeah it's a lot of fun! we recommend it as well
@ireneista @codinghorror @jwz you all delayed my daughters’ dinner, I hope you’re happy (but I may be reading this to one of them later so maybe it’s a wash)
@codinghorror @ireneista @jwz That was a great story. ( "Cat Pictures Please" by Naomi Kritzer ) Thanks for sharing it!
@codinghorror Yeah, 'Liberty's Daughter" is also great.
@jwz say what you want about enterprise, but at least when it was bad it was "more chliché and more boring than average TNG episode"-bad, not "we don't understand the franchise, so let's just make a generic modern action sci-fi show, only the colour blue is allowed, everything must be gritty and grimdark"-bad
@jwz I'm surprised you liked Dark Matter--we just finished it and found it to be incredibly dumb! I will admit I'm interested in season 2 where, presumably, Earth 1 spends some time scratching its head over the hundreds of dead Jasons scattered around the woods, discovers the box technology, and every possible reality simultaneously tries to genocide all the other ones.
@jwz 100% agree on OA. I wanted to see how weird they were gonna go
@jwz The dumbest thing about the "heist movie" framing of Section 31 is that they clearly did not understand how heist movies work. The whole REASON you have the "this is the plan" montage is so that the audience can train up quickly to detect when the plan inevitably "goes wrong".
This can be a real crisis the team has to deal with, or a double-blind where someone always expected something to fail and engaged a clever plan B, or...there's all sorts of ways these films play out! But they all make use of what you learned during The Briefing, when you saw the idealised form of the heist.
But in Section 31, they present this to someone AFTER revealing that this person had rendered the plan useless. And then that person just dumps you in a completely new plan with weird sci-fi stuff that never got explained during the "this is the explanation" part of the heist film, so everyone just STOPS mid-action to babble about the fake science behind it.
Did "AI" write this slop?
@spacehobo This is so true! I hadn't even noticed how bad that was because I was dazzled by how bad everything else was.
@jwz@mastodon.social Jsyk the "pffffffffttttttttt" animates on my end lol:
