@mmasnick You've been covering the so-called "investigations" into TikTok for some time over privacy and security concerns (ala "should TikTok be banned?"). Just wondering if you actually saw anything even remotely scandalous on TikTok's part or if it was all just preformative/political nonsense. I ask because it looks like Canada has decided to start doing the same thing now and I may have to cover huge chunks of that debate on my end of things too going forward: https://www.ctvnews.ca/sci-tech/tiktok-under-investigation-by-canadian-privacy-authorities-1.6286383
@freezenet still no public evidence of literally anything. it's always possible, but I'd prefer to see some sort of actual evidence.
@mmasnick Cool. I suspected as much about the lack of evidence, but I wanted to ask to be sure I didn't unknowingly miss anything. Thanks for the helpful response!
@mmasnick By the way, if anyone at TechDirt is interested in covering any of the stuff surrounding Bill C-11, Bill C-18, Online Harms proposal, but want to pick the mind of someone who follows those bills closely first before doing a writeup, I'd be happy to offer an additional perspective that may prove useful. I feel like half my life in the last two years revolved around those bills anyway.
