been trying brave's search engine lately; whipped up a Firefox/TorBrowser extension to add the .onion version to the browser:

Might be worth noting in #feditips but if you set up to cross-post from Twitter to Fedi/Mastodon, disable retweets and quote replies for proper fediquette

If your posts on fedi look like "RT @/suchandsuch" people will find this spammy and likely mute you because we're trying to get away from that site and don't want to see automated interactions from there, if that makes sense.

Not trying to be mean just being helpful because a lot of folks do it and it does get spammy

A few years ago I made this flow chart of which Mastodon posts end up in which timelines!

So, you can see how each instance will have a different local timeline, and even a slightly different federated timeline - and you can see why the federated timeline moves so much faster than the local one, too.

This is why it's important to boost good posts and use hashtags - the fediverse is fragmented and harder to search by nature.

the python `ipaddress` library is super neat (& i'm so glad i no longer have to do the logic for stuff like this on my own)

threw together a tiny thing for parsing IPs against the iCloud Private Relay ip geolocation list (b/c i've been messing around with new safari): 0xacab.org/mtigas/appleip/-/bl

are there any well-maintained, decently-federated mastodon instances with onion services these days? (it looks like some under-the-hood configuration bits got sorted out earlier this year: github.com/mastodon/mastodon/i )
