"allvm-meta" is now public, containing little meta but two items that are worth sharing couldn't be more different:
* The ALLVM Logo source files and renderings
* Most (?) of the bsd kernel module I wrote for close-to-bare hosting of enough of an LLVM JIT to codegen the bitcode for FreeBSD kernel. From 2013! \o/
The latter isn't documented and is missing some minor bits (patches for uclibc, LLVM, etc.) that once I get a spare weekend I'll search old backups for.
On the illusion of 'net-zero' technologies, how we got there and what is next.
'It should now be getting clear where the journey is heading. As the mirage of each magical technical solution disappears, another equally unworkable alternative pops up to take its place. The next is already on the horizon – and it’s even more ghastly. Once we realise net zero will not happen in time or even at all, geoengineering – the deliberate and large scale intervention in the Earth’s climate system – will probably be invoked as the solution to limit temperature increases.'
"LLVM COBOL front end" are the most beautiful four words I've ever seen in an email subject.
EFF's technical review of Dartmouth's cheating scandal revealed students were accused based on a surveillance tool that automatically syncs to course material during exams. Using overbroad anti-cheating software can lead schools to unfairly accuse students.https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/09/technology/dartmouth-geisel-medical-cheating.html?searchResultPosition=1

Really fantastic to see efforts toward a common good be used for such obviously cool and high profile results!
And my contribution was rather minor... but I'll take it!
Oh hooray, I am now officially a cool mars copter helper person maybe! GitHub updated versions used to give credit apparently, so now I'm included! And have shiny badge to show for it!
(via curl, and only recently got badge as the version originally used was from 2008, and now says 7.72 was used, woohoo if wow as thats 2020!)
Remembering that time in grad school when my advisor, a great ornithologist, got a random call:
drunk guy, bar noises in background: IS THIS THE BIRD PROFESSOR?
my advisor: um..yes?
drunk guy: DO HUMMINGBIRDS HAVE FEET?
my advisor: ...yes
*wild cheering over phone from bar*
when I see the words "category theory" I say "mathematics" and this makes everything quite a bit simpler
