I find it so disappointing that out of all the things pronouns could represent somehow we have ended up with gender. We could have pronouns that represent the relationship you have with the person you're talking about or whether they're a cat or dog person (or maybe both or neither?) or something else cool. Instead we get gender, which is a personal and sensitive subject for some people and basically gives people an excuse to try and figure out someone's gender and/or sex, which tbh, isn't any of their business in most situations. It's such a personal thing that has to be made public just so people can talk about you in third person.
It makes me a bit anxious when someone leaves me a voicemail and I can't understand most of what they're saying because it's crackly and sounds like they're speaking from down a hallway. #relatable
This seems really interesting: https://keybase.pub/feathersong/pol/barnacle-collective.html
I think there's an interesting issue I've noticed in game designs that probably applies to other stuff too
Okay, so you've released your game and then figured out your design has a grievous flaw. You want to fix the design, but there's a problem! All the people still playing your game are those who have made peace with or even enjoy the flaw.
And if you fix the flaw it may drive those people away, but there's no guarantee the people who left because of the flaw will come back.
Political theory?
I’m still on this:
We say our government’s authority is based on the consent of the governed. How can people consent to be governed if they don’t have the power to not consent?
We would never say someone freely consented to something if the cost to not consenting was leaving their home and everyone and everything they knew behind.
I'm going to keep reiterating this because the "power to the people" / "collective domination is good" tendency of the Left keeps creeping back:
Democracy is evil. Our goal is to kill power, not collectivize it.
Just walked past a pokies venue and thinking. Pokies are awful and ruin people’s lives for profit. But why are people using them to begin with?
If we just ban pokies without addressing the needs that are driving people to them, people might be even worse off than before.
It seems like this applies to any kind of “vice” you care to name - alcohol, sugar, smoking, etc.
