While I like using @kagihq, I wonder a bit about the underlying mechanics.

Initially, my impression was that they had their own search index. I implemented SEO on my project, Recordfy, and now I see my results on Google. I can also see in the logs how the Google crawler moves through the sitemap entries.

Now, all of a sudden, my search entries appear on Kagi as well. So, are they just an aggregator like @duckduckgo?

These AI chatbots are all very good, but ...

When one can solve a problem for me in 5 minutes, that would have otherwise resulted in an hour of invoiceable time, I'm not sure they're saving *me* money.

All Kagi products are 100% ad-free and with zero trackers of any kind. Our privacy is our dignity. It should never be for sale.

“I have become increasingly uninterested in having the internet done for me. We live too much of our lives inside of too many algorithms, products with hidden agendas, and platforms with no concern for our best interest or user experience. That’s why I believe in the fediverse, and in RSS readers, and in algorithms I can see and shape myself. They offer me an internet experience that I am in charge of.”

The Verge · The future of search isn’t Google — and it’s $10 a monthBy David Pierce

Search is horrible now with Google and the Usual Suspects. So I switched to Kagi search and it is amazing. Yes it isn't free, but the quality of results is impressive and not riddled with ads.
#kagi #search

Last month I signed up for #kagi #search - way better than Google in my experience. This article says $10/month, which gets you unlimited search, but $5/month gets you 300 searches a month and signing up for a year gets you a 10% discount, so I spent $50 for 3600 searches over the next year and if it turns out I exhaust that in 9 or 10 months, I'll still be ahead. I tracked my usage during a trial period and do not think I'm going to exhaust it in half a year.
