Übersetzungssprint<a href="https://pkp.sfu.ca/2025/04/08/german-translation-spr/" class="" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"> read this article in English</a>Die Open-Source-Software <a href="https://pkp.sfu.ca/software/ojs/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Open Journal Systems (OJS)</a> des <a href="https://pkp.sfu.ca/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Public Knowledge Projects</a> (PKP) ist eine führende Workflow-Management-Software im europäischen Open-Access-Publizieren (vgl. z. B. die country reports in Armengou et al., 2023). Im deutschsprachigen Raum alleine bieten mehr als 80 Institutionen OJS-Hosting an (IPOA-Redaktionsteam, 2021). Bislang gibt es jedoch keine Übersetzung der Benutzer:innen-Dokumentation (PKP Docs) für die OJS-Software ins Deutsche (Learning OJS 3, n.d.). Daher initiierte der Diamond-Open-Access-Verlag der TIB, <a href="https://www.tib-op.org/ojs/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">TIB Open Publishing</a>, den ersten Übersetzungssprint: Nach dem Vorbild der PKP-Developer-Sprints arbeiteten wir in Gruppen eineinhalb Tage lang an selbst gewählten Abschnitten der Dokumentation.Die Teilnehmenden kamen von einer Reihe von Institutionen im deutschsprachigen Raum, darunter die Universitätsbibliothek Köln, die Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen, die Ruhr-Universität Bochum, die Freie Universität Berlin, das Bibliotheksservice-Zentrum (hbz) Nordrhein-Westfalen, PsychOpen GOLD (Leibniz-Institut für Psychologie), die Universitätsbibliothek Münster, die Universität Münster und die Universität Innsbruck.Die Gruppe freut sich jederzeit über weitere engagierte Personen und Institutionen – neue Mitglieder sind stets willkommen.Wie läuft ein Übersetzungssprint ab?Im Rahmen des virtuellen Sprints stellten wir zunächst die Übersetzungssoftware (Crowdin) sowie zusätzliche Ressourcen für den Übersetzungsprozess vor. Dazu gehörten ein Cryptpad für organisatorische Informationen, ein Glossar mit Begriffen, die manuell in der deutschen OJS-Installation gesammelt wurden, und einen Link zur Weblate-Instanz, die für die OJS- und Open Monograph Press (OMP)-Softwareübersetzungen verwendet wurde. Sowohl das Pad als auch das Glossar blieben während des gesamten Sprints für Ergänzungen, Austausch, Anmerkungen und Änderungen offen und dienten als Grundlage für folgende Sprints.Als Nächstes wurden die Teilnehmenden gebeten, Teile der Dokumentation für die Übersetzung auf Basis ihrer persönlichen Anwendungsfälle auszuwählen und zu priorisieren. Zu den als am wichtigsten eingestuften Abschnitten der OJS 3.3 Dokumentation gehörten „About OJS“, „Editorial Workflow“, „User and Roles“ und „User Accounts“. Anschließend teilte sich die Gruppe auf, um in Kleingruppen gemeinsam an den verschiedenen Abschnitten zu arbeiten. Die Übersetzungstechniken variierten je nach Gruppe: Einige arbeiteten zunächst einzeln an aufgeteilten Abschnitten, während andere zusammen Satz für Satz übersetzten. Pausen wurden dabei von allen Gruppen nach eigenem Ermessen festgelegt.Die Fortschritte der einzelnen Gruppen wurden ebenfalls in dem gemeinsamen Pad gesammelt, um die anderen Gruppen asynchron auf dem neuesten Stand zu halten. Während der erste Tag den Übersetzungen gewidmet war, wurde der zweite Tag zwischen Übersetzen und Korrekturlesen aufgeteilt: Die fertigen Übersetzungen tauschten die Gruppen aus, lasen sie gegenseitig gegen und überarbeiteten sie. Zudem traf sich die gesamte Gruppe in regelmäßigen Abständen, um Unklarheiten zu besprechen, beispielsweise bei der Übersetzung bestimmter Begriffe. Die so getroffenen Konsensentscheidungen wurden wiederum in dem gemeinsamen Pad für künftige Sprints festgehalten. Als Ergebnis des ersten Übersetzungs-Sprints konnten wir gemeinsam mehr als 10.000 Wörter übersetzen, die für das abschließende Korrekturlesen in der Übersetzungssoftware bereit waren. Nach dem Sprint übernahmen meine Kolleg:innen von TIB Open Publishing und ich diesen letzten Schritt, bevor der Text zur Freigabe an PKPs „Documentation and Multilingualism Specialist“ weitergeleitet wurde.Wie kann man an einem Übersetzungssprint für die OJS-Dokumentation teilnehmen?Ein zweiter Sprint fand am 4. Februar 2025 statt und ein dritter bzw. vierter Termin wurden für den 9. April 2025 und den 18. Juni 2025 angesetzt. Das Konzept hat sich gegenüber dem ersten Sprint dahingehend weiterentwickelt, dass der Zeitaufwand nun auf einen Tag begrenzt ist. Das virtuelle Format aber bleibt erhalten. Eine kleine Änderung betrifft außerdem die Aufteilung der Aufgaben, da nun einige Gruppen direkt mit dem Korrekturlesen beginnen können. Dies liegt unter anderem daran, dass engagierte Teilnehmende eigenständig zwischen den Treffen weiter übersetzt haben. Alle, die an einer Teilnahme am Sprint im April bzw. Juni 2025 interessiert sind, können sich gerne an die TIB Open Publishing wenden und erhalten dann weitere Informationen.Die Partnerschaft von TIB und PKPDie TIB ist eine langjährige Unterstützerin und Development-Partner von PKP. In dieser Rolle leistet die TIB sowohl einen Beitrag zum Betrieb als auch zur Softwareentwicklung von PKP. So geben wir Feedback zur Arbeit von PKP und kollaborieren auch im Rahmen von gemeinsamen Aktivitäten. Die TIB bietet außerdem Informationen und Support für die deutsche OJS-Community. Dies ist Teil unseres Engagements für Open Access, insbesondere für Diamond Open Access und eine vielfältige Verlagslandschaft, die sich auf freie Software, wie OJS, verlassen kann. Durch die Arbeit an der Dokumentation unterstützen wir deutschsprachige Redakteur:innen und Administrator:innen von OJS-Zeitschriften. Wir sind jederzeit bereit, weitere Bedürfnisse und Wünsche aus der deutschen OJS-Community in unsere Arbeit einzubeziehen.Zur PKP-Dokumentation beitragenAls free and open-source (FOSS)-Community ist das Public Knowledge Project auf die Unterstützung einer weltweiten Gemeinschaft von Mitwirkenden angewiesen, um seine laufende Wartung und Entwicklung zu stärken und auszubauen. Ein Weg der Mitwirkung ist die Übersetzung von Software und Dokumentation.Die PKP-Dokumentation wird von der <a href="https://pkp.sfu.ca/about/culture/documentation/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Documentation Interest Group</a> (DIG) und Mitgliedern der Community koordiniert, erstellt und gepflegt.
