Predrag Gruevski<p>The vast majority of SemVer-breaking changes are caused by code changes that *look* simple and safe, but are *sneakily* causing breakage too.</p><p>- 55% of breakage is item deletions<br>- 25% of breakage is item *additions* that are (non-obviously!) breaking<br>- 10% is caused by auto-traits like Send + Sync</p><p>This is good news! It means tools like cargo-semver-checks can fix this.</p><p>Find more data and examples in my RustConf talk:</p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKf14ZXyTSo&amp;list=PL2b0df3jKKiTWZeF7cip6ZUsaVXxWioRi&amp;index=26&amp;pp=iAQB" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/watch?v=KKf14ZXyTS</span><span class="invisible">o&amp;list=PL2b0df3jKKiTWZeF7cip6ZUsaVXxWioRi&amp;index=26&amp;pp=iAQB</span></a></p><p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/rust" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rust</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/rustlang" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rustlang</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/rustconf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rustconf</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/rustconf24" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rustconf24</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/semver" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>semver</span></a></p>

Martin Geisler<p>I recently gave a talk at <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/RustConf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RustConf</span></a> called *Rust Education at Scale* where I describe how we've now used the material for more than 100 sessions at <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/Google" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Google</span></a> — and we're continuously refining it.</p><p>I really enjoyed the conference and the discussions afterwards. madomado<p>I can't understand why <a href="https://floss.social/tags/covid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>covid</span></a> cases still exist in 2024 in the US (just recently discovered this when <a href="https://floss.social/tags/rustconf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rustconf</span></a> was mentioned)</p><p>So I'm curious if there is anyone here not from US can confirm this is weird or maybe actually your country has covid right now too.</p>
Martin Geisler<p>It was a lot of fun to present the work we've done on Comprehensive <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/Rust" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Rust</span></a> at <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/rustconf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rustconf</span></a>. Thanks to the person asking if you need permission to use the material — the answer is "no", the course is open source and we love to see people use it in many different ways!</p><p>One of the ways that I hope to see people use it is to create a video tutorial: <a href="https://github.com/google/comprehensive-rust/issues/52" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/google/comprehensiv</span><span class="invisible">e-rust/issues/52</span></a>. I frankly don't have the necessary expertise for this, but there are many talented <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/rustlang" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rustlang</span></a> YouTubers out there...</p>

Isaac Wyatt<p>After <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/RustConf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RustConf</span></a>, I went to <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Quebec" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Quebec</span></a> to visit my friend who is a physist at the University of Laval and got to see how she made Quantum Dots. </p><p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Laval" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Laval</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/QuantumDots" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>QuantumDots</span></a></p>

rain 🌦️<p>hey <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/rustconf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rustconf</span></a>, I tested positive for covid today and I'm isolating in my hotel room — if I interacted with you, please test and isolate as necessary!</p><p>I did get vaccinated a couple of weeks ago so I'm hoping I wasn't too contagious. Seems mild so far, just some general malaise</p>
Meg<p>Update for your notifications: links below!</p><p>People who get excited about complex locking scenarios and how Rust can be used to make them safe above and beyond the built in language safety should definitely check out the talk by Joshua Liebow-Feeser called "Safety in an Unsafe World" at rustconf (<a href="https://youtu.be/qd3x5MCUrhw" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">youtu.be/qd3x5MCUrhw</span><span class="invisible"></span></a>). It's a really good talk about compile time enforcement of hierarchical locking in fuchsia's netstack3. </p><p>Edit: Rustconf 2024 videos are up now!
