Throwing more money into building infrastructure means building massive with huge computing power. This in turn means a huge spike in + demand for cooling systems + gas emissions.

It is neither good for society, nor good for the planet. impact & redirection of public utility like power & water from daily needs in favour of these machines in the midst of the is criminal.

Trump & tech oligarchy is suicidal

i have been running around for 3 years, talking with high profile folks in the movement, people who have been my friends fro a long time, warning them about the demobilization of voters in their own ranks and all i ever got was: "well that's their personal preference yadada". they kept retweeting them and giving them a platform despite. until this day they are still on with a blue checkmark.

at some point it's not nativity anymore, at some point it's full fledged denial.

Lifestyle & factors affect & aging more than our (19/02/25. University of Oxford) sciencedaily.com/releases/2025

My view: Whilst the researchers offer the generic "we urgently need bold action from Government", what will undoubtedly reduce the risk factors across society, is to increase human general intelligence. For people to understand the risk factors of smoking & air pollution for example, a person has to be scientifically literate (intelligent enough)

ScienceDailyLifestyle and environmental factors affect health and aging more than our genesA new study led by researchers from Oxford Population Health has shown that a range of environmental factors, including lifestyle (smoking and physical activity), and living conditions, have a greater impact on health and premature death than our genes.

#Massachusetts: A successful tri-town #RepairCafé

by Audrey Anderson
Hometown Weekly Reporter

"According to the Christian Science Monitor, 'It was 15 years ago when Dutch #environmental journalist #MartinePostma was finally moved to action over all the appliances she saw being thrown away in her Amsterdam neighborhood . . .on Oct. 18, 2009, she arranged a local event where volunteers skilled in repairs would try to fix broken devices that community members brought in, free of cost.'

"Holding a local repair café can help reduce waste in a community and enable people to save money by continuing to use their household items and forgoing the purchase of new ones. A repair café is also an opportunity for people to get to know their neighbors, share a snack, and admire the #fixperts as they work. Repair cafés are now a trend being held throughout the world.

"At the #WestwoodMA Senior Center, a large group a people arrived at the #TriTownRepairCafé earlier this month before the opening time of 2:30 pm. The event was organized by the Westwood #EnvironmentalAction Committee, The Dover Recycling Committee, #SustainableMedfield, and the Medfield Transfer Station and Recycling Committee. The items people brought with them to be fixed included a blender, lamps, a coat, an air conditioner, sewing machines, a folding table, a chair, and a clock, among many others.

"After entering the Senior Center, attendees briefly waited in line and chatted until it was their turn to register for the event. After that, they were called by name to enter the repair rooms where approximately 12 volunteer repair people or 'fixperts' worked intently on the broken items at their workstations while the owners watched. There was no charge for the repair service, and the repairs were not guaranteed. Item owners were responsible for purchasing any parts needed.

"Fixpert Bob was presented with a sewing machine that needed the bobbin assembly to be put back into place after falling out. Bob was delighted at the word play of 'Bob working on a bobbin!' The owner of the 1987 Brother sewing machine wanted to avoid purchasing a new one, but she couldn’t figure out how to put the bobbin assembly pieces back together. Bob got right to work, studying a few pages from the original manual that the owner brought. One could see him thinking as he looked back and forth at the pieces of the bobbin assembly he held in his hands. Though Bob had no prior experience with sewing machines, he soon had the three pieces of the bobbin assembly put together and seated back in the machine.

"The other fixperts chatted with 'customers' while fixing their items, consulted each other on repairs, and used a variety of tools. A fun atmosphere prevailed in the room, with people showing each other what they brought to be fixes and happily announcing, 'He fixed it!' and showing their restored items to others.

"The next time you see a Repair Café being organized locally, you might want to give it a try."

An excerpt from: The ‘#degrowth’ movement envisions global #ClimateJustice, but must adapt to #GlobalSouth realities

Published: February 6, 2025
by Claudius Gräbner-Radkowitsch and Birte Strunk

What about the global south?

"Today, many degrowth advocates assert that the richer countries of the global north, being largely responsible for environmental degradation, should be the ones to scale back economic activity to avert ecological catastrophe. But what about the poorer countries of the global south? Should they adopt degrowth strategies? Some argue this would impose a #neocolonial agenda, with wealthier countries once again dictating the terms of global development. Others note that many poorer countries need economic growth to combat poverty. And even if degrowth were limited to the north, it could still have significant effects on the south – both positive and negative.

"A review of academic literature on degrowth and the global south reveals two main perspectives: those who see degrowth as incompatible with the south’s development needs, and those who believe it could offer synergies with sustainable development goals.

"Supporters of degrowth often point out that many of its core ideas originate in the global south. Anthropologist Jason Hickel cites figures such as Sri Lankan philosopher #AnandaCoomaraswamy, Indian economist #JCKumarappa and Bengali poet #RabindranathTagore as inspirations. While these thinkers may not use the term 'degrowth', they promote ideas aligned with it, such as the Latin American #SumakKawsay (or “#BuenVivir”) or the South African #Ubuntu. These non-Western perspectives have been instrumental in shaping the degrowth discourse in the global north.

Degrowth as decolonisation

"Degrowth advocates argue that scaling back economic activity in the north could help dismantle the unequal global division of labour, in which raw materials are extracted from the south and processed into consumer goods in the north. This system disproportionately benefits wealthier nations while leaving poorer countries with the social and #environmental costs.

"#FedericoDemaria, a researcher in political ecology, argues that northern countries must 'pay for past and present #colonial #exploitation in the south' – a central theme in contemporary degrowth discourse.

"Some researchers suggest that dependence on economic growth is problematic for both the north and south. They argue that growth alone does not guarantee poverty reduction – wealth distribution and institutional reforms are just as crucial. Degrowth could help both regions avoid #unsustainable development models by focusing more on social well-being than perpetual economic expansion."
