@GottaLaff
What's so infuriating to me (among SO many) is that just like in 2016, Trump walks into a thriving economy that had to be rebuilt by Democrats after a disastrous Republican regime. And THIS economy that Joe Biden built is the strongest in history, yet all people focused on was inflation...which Biden handled better than any other country. And just in his first term in office, Trump is going to trash this great economy. The dots aren't that difficult to connect.
@Wileymiller @GottaLaff "Trash this great economy and then blame Biden for it," most likely. Or maybe Pelosi. She's always a convenient scapegoat.
@jonberger
And somehow Hillary.
Chris said there is plenty to build on... well... today... what the landscape looks like a year from now? anyone's guess... but not likely pretty based on what we know of P-2025 and the disease of Trumpism.
Dems didn't do enough to explain the economy was really great and once prices increased they weren't really coming back down much and that over time, and it takes time and patience, this will look so much better... yes, the recovery was exceptional.
now, trump will once again, claim it was he who hit the triple on this excellent economy and go back to the shit of trickle down... it will be decimated, as well the corruption will likely in the trillions this time.
The problem is breaking through the disinformation/propaganda bubble of Fox and other RW outlets, coupled with TwitterX and Facebook perpetuating the gaslighting on an endless loop.
Well... here's this morning on Fox...

Fox News’ Dana Perino and Greg Gutfeld suggest “the death penalty” for Donald Trump prosecutors:
“They definitely need therapy, and maybe also the death penalty”
@tdwllms1 @Wileymiller @GottaLaff The economy is pretty great if you're rich. Dems failed to understand that inflation and the cost of living are still very real issues to working class Americans.
The economy is great regardless if you're rich or not... it just is.. low unemployment, a steady growth and growing wages... wage growth at the bottom is now outpacing inflation. Yes prices are still high.. they won't recede as inflation is built in to the economy. Yes the pandemic fucked things up... all over the world. Yes it sucks. and now.. it's going to get a lot worse. No they didn't forget... there just nothing anyone can really do about it.
Time and patience was needed as in every recovery and the people refused to wait for the full recovery.. and now we are fucked. prices and inflation will get worse if trump does everything he says.
@tdwllms1 @Wileymiller @GottaLaff The best way I can phrase this is poppycock. We still haven't felt the effects of the Biden economy downstream in the more rural and less affluent parts of the country. Maybe we would have eventually if Harris had won. Under Obama it took two terms for things to stabilize for everyone. It's a moot point now. The effects of Trump's tariffs are going to felt in every corner of the US.
you can call it poppycock if you like, it doesn't negate the fact we have low unemployment, bottom end wage gains and expanding economic growth.
It took 8 years to recover from the 2008 recession," real median household income did not recover to pre-recession levels until 2016"
and people demanded we recover from a massive world with pandemic in 2 years or less.
it's an impossibility... that we did as well as we did was astounding and wages have already recovered to 2019 levels.
Is it still difficult for people ... absolutely... it was never going to be righted over night.. Powell said yesterday it'll take 2 more years for people to feel really good about the economy.. but it'll be too late.
I'll note one more thing... it took 40 years of GOP trickle down to destroy our economy and make it a haven for the wealthy... 2.5 years is not enough time to fully reverse that trickledown trend...
@tdwllms1 @Wileymiller @GottaLaff
How were Dems supposed to do that when television and print media ignored it for the most part?
I have no answers... I'd guess the admin could have spoke out more in 2023 and early 2024 explain patience was needed and to have some resolve to work with them... but print and media sure did fck us over.
@tdwllms1 @Wileymiller @GottaLaff
Also, let us not overlook the voter suppression on steroids that happened since 2020.
I think when the total of all voted are counted.. she may have the lead... California is only 58% counted. Oregon and Washington in the 80%'s
@Wileymiller @GottaLaff
I hope they enjoy the price changes caused by mass deportations of farm workers and enormous tariffs on imported goods.
@Wileymiller @GottaLaff this makes me think about the study /post somewhere on here about how people who conveyed and understanding of the issues largely did not vote for Trump while those who misunderstood tended to vote for him. People voted more about how they feel or believe, thanks to many factors of which the media ecosphere is one.
@Wileymiller I work with small businesses and I have to interject that the economic indicators may be good, but the health of the economy is very uneven.
There's too much real estate in offices and too little in housing everywhere right now. Much as people frame RTO mandates as bosses being bossy, the full picture is more uncomfortable.
Tax bases in cities are down sharply because commercial real estate taxes are key to civic funding. Dangerous municipal budget crises abound right now.
Inflation stopped, but costs stayed high. People fail to understand that deflation is bad, but the price of a good fast-food burger being $10 in some places makes it hard for smaller operations to make any money, especially if highly paid office workers are rarely downtown anymore. $25 burgers won't sell, but $15 burgers won't pay the bills.
The money is out there, but as we know it's highly unequal. What we're not acknowledging is that even amongst the scraps, many have-somes are slipping into being have-nots.
@sysop408 @Wileymiller @GottaLaff This is almost completely true in my corner of Vermont. Particular to VT is that our particular version of the housing crisis is causing a localized hyperinflation death spiral.
@galad the entire 4 years that I've been hearing that the economy is strong, but was precariously close to overheating, I was also constantly hearing things were bad.
Mom and Pop businesses are generally prone to feeling that things are bad. Truly small business is a scary way to live so I dismissed the pessimism as just their usual anxieties.
I've since seen economic reports from my city showing what's happened up until 2024. Ouch. OK, it wasn't just them projecting their usual anxiety.
On the other hand, I also have seen small businesses thrive lately. Many located in popular tourist areas had a very good year last year. The people with money are clearly spending (and traveling). A $25 burger isn't deterring them in the least, but they're flocking to places that already have advantages, leaving the outskirts (or the center) of town even harder off.
I think we have a good, but fragile economy right now. It can go south in a hurry.
@Wileymiller @GottaLaff
If Biden had a better congress we'd be in even better shape. Instead Tester, Brown get the boot and people that did less than nothing - Cruz, Hawley, Scott, skated to reelection. If anti-incumbency is the cause, I don't understand how the incompetent, malevolent Sens had no problem.
@Wileymiller Trump will take credit for all the good and when he tanks the economy, will blame Biden.
The end.
@GottaLaff @Wileymiller Yep. We all know that he's never done anything wrong in his whole life :cough: :cough:
Well, of course. That's a given, just like he did in '16. He lays the groundwork by proclaiming/gaslighting the economy "is a disaster" beforehand, then after he takes office, it's suddenly booming because of him.
@Wileymiller @GottaLaff
Absolutely horrific and demoralizing. When #DonTheCon starts claiming it's his economy my head is going to explode.
@Wileymiller @palin @GottaLaff So basically cheaper bread and cheaper eggs were more important than freedom. Message received.
@Thumper1964
This belongs to Merrick Garland and the Democrats.
We did our part.
@GottaLaff This is a great analysis. But it ignores the similarity of the numbers between Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris. Democrats ignored, twice, that America is not ready to elect a female president. I am not saying its right, its just true. We have to win and let making history take care of itself.
@truthtriscuit @GottaLaff Observers should in this instance note Kamala Harris' performance during the 2020 democratic primaries.
@GottaLaff It is not entirely my own view but is well worth watching.
@3dogcouch Yes, it's a smart take, despite any disagreements.
@6G @GottaLaff he makes some good points but I disagree with his final takeaway: no, this is not enough to build our future on.
