Tired of waiting until the end of a sentence before you can be histrionic? The exclamation comma.

I saw this post about the #exclamma ,! later today and it made me laugh again
I think I want a t shirt
@CiaraNi @Blueskyfox @RussSharek
I checked out a bunch of books on rogue punctuation from the library earlier this year I have to get them back out to see if something like this was amongst them
@AccordionBruce @CiaraNi @Blueskyfox
I'm a big believer in bringing back the interrobang.
@RussSharek @CiaraNi @Blueskyfox
I just had a very pleasant time, trying to figure out how to type one using @mwichary’s virtual typewriter which does not have an exclamation point. Neither does it have 1 or 0 keys. Remember those? Remarkably well digitized the frustration of a #typewriter. You can feel it jamming as you type. Amazing.
Edit:
Forgot the link if you want to try : https://shifthappens.site/typewriter/
@RussSharek @CiaraNi @Blueskyfox @mwichary
The way I found to type an #exclamma #PauseBang ,! on the classic #typewriter was
, backspace ‘
That took some trial and error and whiteout ribbon
@AccordionBruce @RussSharek @CiaraNi @Blueskyfox @mwichary a great place to type E. E. Cummings poems.
@AccordionBruce This typewriter simulator is wonderful. Time travel. The hopping and jamming. The white correction tape! I have bookmarked it because otherwise I will do nothing today. Thanks for the link.
@AccordionBruce @RussSharek @CiaraNi @Blueskyfox @mwichary
I wonder if there is such a thing as a mechanical keyboard with programmable resistance. Then you could really feel the jam.
@MrBehemo @RussSharek @CiaraNi @Blueskyfox @mwichary
I’ve got 90 gram resistance on most of my new #Dygma Defy keyboard keys (which is really heavy, to deal with a hand tremor)
But some of the pinky keys like Shift I’ve got down as low as 35 g to prevent fatigue for those weak fingers
I’m getting it tuned like a hot rod, which is nice, because I basically can’t type on a normal keyboard due to my #disability
@AccordionBruce @MrBehemo @RussSharek @CiaraNi @Blueskyfox @mwichary
Wow looks intense, but customizations bring options and utility so congratulations! It looks incredible! How do you like it?
@EVDHmn @MrBehemo @RussSharek @CiaraNi @Blueskyfox @mwichary
It’s nifty!
The columnar layout and especially the many thumb keys are a big change from their Raise keyboard I had before
But it’s a fun challenge I think I’ll get used to pretty quickly
I honestly can’t see this kind of radical keyboard challenging the inertia of the status quo
Touchscreens or voice recognition may do away with the #MechanicalKeyboard before adaptions like this will change it
@AccordionBruce @MrBehemo @RussSharek @CiaraNi @Blueskyfox @mwichary
I had one of the ms ergonomic ones from back in the nineties …plus have implemented a couple splits …looks like it’s really progressed nicely!
@EVDHmn @MrBehemo @RussSharek @CiaraNi @Blueskyfox @mwichary
With the ease of small batch manufacturing and diy homemade boards I’d definitely consider this a new Golden Age of #ergoKeyboards
@AccordionBruce Are the keys above the pad configurable macros?
@feddesgc
Every key on the #Dygma boards is customizable
You can currently have ten “layers” of actions for each key, triggered by layer-shift keys
I’ve got layers with number pads and arrow keys
You can assign per-key RGBW led lighting to help indicate which layer you’re on and which keys you what
“This is my Num Pad Layer, those are the +-/* keys”
“That is my macro to type the emoji”
@feddesgc
I’m experimenting with that F keycap looking for some options to fulfill my dream of a home row like the ones on the old Kenesis Advantage
Might order a set of eight from this nice Etsy shop that made that white resin sample
@AccordionBruce @feddesgc arent they just a modified DSA profile keycap? Maybe try something from Signature Plastics?
@trashcatt @feddesgc
The Kinesis ones do seem to be a hybrid tall DSA
But I want some shine through ideally
And I really like the looks of those DES ones
Somebody tried ASA ones on their Defy which look nice
There’s so many choices, but I like the more spherical ”cupped” tops of the DES ones to show me where to put my home row fingers
I tend to get lost, especially on the unfamiliar columnar layout
@AccordionBruce wow that's awesome!!!
@MrBehemo @RussSharek @CiaraNi @Blueskyfox @mwichary
There’s magnetic key switches you can program (with an app) how fast you want them to actuate and things like that. But it doesn’t affect the pressure that you feel
I think to do that you have to change the actual switches on the board
The easiest way to do that is you get a keyboard with what they call “hot-swap” switches that let you pull them out and change them even while the keyboard is plugged in
@MrBehemo @RussSharek @CiaraNi @Blueskyfox @mwichary
Keyboard nerd-dom is low hanging fruit
Most of the basics you can pick up by watching a couple of videos or reading a webpage or two
But you can be easily trapped if you start spending any time or money, so beware
