Birding walk down to Radley yesterday morning - 41 species seen/heard. Started well with #Goldcrest within 10 paces of the front door. Light was still a bit dim but it sat still long enough for a couple pics.
Lots of #fieldfare and #redwing about.
Also a first encounter with @NearbyWild who has nice video of fieldfare drinking from puddles just before we met. https://youtu.be/nbVTaTHeZCo?si=f1qK7DOIHEw7pbc3
Don't see stonechat here so often but there were a pair amongst the spent sunflowers left to stand by Lower Farm - also enjoyed by linnets and goldfinches too.
Highlight tho was yellowhammer first sighting for the year #BirdsSeenIn2023
Back down to the river and a pair of egytian geese flew over. Strange to then see one alone as I started a return along the river. But then saw the pair across the river. Also reed bunting a little far off across the water, and the joy of skylark soaring above me.
@AngusW None of the books (checked 3) I have even dare to mention the differences between male and female Red kite. At a stretch they do mention how you can tell juveniles and young adults apart from older ones.
Possibly the female have slightly darker colours, and is somewhat heavier (but I never have scales around when out in the field ).
@AngusW Many thanks for your kind comment about the video Angus! There were a lot of Redwings there two days ago, along with Yellowhammers and Reed Buntings, amongst others! You would have obtained much better images than I did!
