The swans with the darker heads and necks are juveniles.

Four swans are in flight, wings outstretched. The one at the bottom of the formations is pure white with a black beak and feet; the 3 above have greyish heads and necks. Behind them, we can see trees and shrubs in soft focus, in their winter nakedness but their branches are still showing colour: reds, yellows, browns. The sky is a dull grey. The white of the swans seems luminous, the snowy ground below acting as a soft box, reflecting light back up on them.

The yellow wing tags indicates it's been tagged in Ontario. Trumpeter swans are a native species that had disappeared from eastern Canada due to hunting and habitat loss, were reintroduced in the 80s, and because of conservation efforts are making a comeback and no longer considered endangered. :)

A white swan with a black beak and black feet is flying straight towards us. Its wings are outstretched and we can see yellow tags on the tops of the wings. Behind it is snow-covered ice, with red-branched shrubbery marking the edge of the pond. The swan has just flown over the icy edge of the free water in the pond and is about to land in the water. It's snowing. We can see the flakes and the scene is being softened behind the swan.

Just to show the urban side, turn 180 and there is the city! :)

The Leslie Spit really is a city jewel.

Toronto skyline, looking soft and partly obscured by snow. In the foreground is a field of white snow, with naked trees at the edge of the water. We can see a bit of the water from the harbour, and to the right, we can see a large shipping vessel. The top of the CN tower is disappearing in the grey snow clouds.
