Steam Phone is real. Finally got the controller working! #postmarketOS #steam #oneplus #gaming #linuxmobile #mobilelinux
Tomb Raider 2013 (FEX Emu) works with the controller! #postmarketOS #steam #gaming #oneplus #linuxmobile #mobilelinux #linuxgaming
@CalcProgrammer1 just saw this announcement and immediately thought about your recent tooting and tinkering:

@tinsuke 8bitdo makes good stuff, hopefully this controller will work well on Linux. The GameSir's normal HID mode doesn't, it only works because it has a DS4 compatibility mode intended for iOS.
@tinsuke I wish these Bluetooth controllers still had a retractable USB port so that you could pass through charge the phone. Skyrim absolutely murders the battery life on the OnePlus 6T so you can get like 30 minutes out of it before you have to recharge. The other thing is...why not just have USB-C and Bluetooth in the same controller and make it switchable like the regular console controllers.
@CalcProgrammer1 a pass through would be a quite a useful compromise if the device doesn't support USB-C itself.
Hopefully it does well and we see some revision.
I also have only good experiences with their controllers.
@CalcProgrammer1 @tinsuke i mean, you could get a controller like this, nvidia shield portable style
sounds nice to have for the FOSS games I play! What is this gamepad you've got? Does it connect with BT or OTG?
@farooqkz I just got it, it's the GameSir X2S Bluetooth. I also just ordered the USB C version of the X2S. The USB host mode on the OnePlus 6T is still WIP and needs external power so I'm not sure if it will work yet, but after figuring out a kernel driver issue the Bluetooth version works nicely. It acts as a DualShock 4.
I wouldn't count on Bluetooth for gaming
@farooqkz It's not that bad. The input latency is fine for the kind of games you would be playing on a controller, and every major console except Xbox uses Bluetooth for their wireless controllers (Xbox controllers support Bluetooth as well but use a proprietary wireless protocol with the console itself).
You mean those dongles? Those are built specificly for the communication so I think they have better firmware and hardware than the phone's general purpose chip.
@farooqkz The Xbox One/Series controllers have an optional dongle but the other controllers just use standard Bluetooth. The Bluetooth chip in phones is attached via UART instead of USB but people use controllers with iOS and Android just fine. If you're playing competitive shooters or fighting games maybe the latency is too much but I was getting better at Celeste on this controller and that game is relatively fast paced.
@farooqkz I should try playing SuperTuxKart with it. I mainly bought it to test Steam games, but native FOSS games should also be able to use it.
@CalcProgrammer1 this is cool "the steamdeck we have at home".
@CalcProgrammer1 What controller is this? This looks awesome
@nerd7473 GameSir X2S Bluetooth
@CalcProgrammer1 I don't have any games on my phone, but Half-Life 2 is the exception I'll happily install.
@CalcProgrammer1 what controllers are these?
