My top tip is to make sure to use and follow hashtags to get your stuff discovered by other people and to also make sure your feed is populated :) hashtags here have a much bigger use than you might be used to elsewhere, it took me a while to get used to

@HeathertheWitch Welcome! Best advice is to follow as many interesting people as you can find for now (you can always change your mind later) to start finding more new content and people. Also consider @FediTips for good newcomer resources.
@HeathertheWitch welcome!!! Hashtags are how you interact and find community here. Also as you do follow interesting people and interact with them… people are usually nice here! There is no algorithm so this is how we do it. Then network effects should take over.

Please try to get your friends from #TikTok and #Meta apps to join too! #Mastodon gives you control back over your feeds. You control what new content you see by following hashtags and users. You will definitely find content you are interested in. It is also easy to mute or block if someone doesn't treat you well.
