This does not look like human behavior. Again today, my Mastodon account is followed by dozens of new anonymous accounts, and they all follow exactly 40 other accounts.
@renchap I do not want to be reading tea leaves here, but can you understand my concern that this could be a bot net system generating spam profiles in bulk?
Can you think of any technical explanation why I am seeing so many similar accounts following exactly 40 other accounts?

Accounts named "NameLotsaNumbers" are almost always bots. But bots created by a single user to flag particular keywords coming from an account (yours) that concentrates on a particular topic. So when users mention a particular topic they were set to follow, all of the accounts follow at the same time (thus the 40 follows.)
If I had to guess, "Kololo" is the parent account (no numbers in name.)
