Not going to make it for this #TransRightsReadathon but on my to-be-read list I have;
"Candy Darling: Dreamer, Icon, Superstar" by Cynthia Carr.
This is the same Candy that Lou Reed sings about in the "Walk on the Wild Side";
"Candy came from out on the island,
In the backroom she was everybody’s darling,
But she never lost her head
Even when she was giving head."
@TaruViero An anecdote, since it came to mind... A bunch of years ago my at the time boss was finishing up her higher degree in photography and had to do a bunch of studio photography for school work. She wanted to recreate iconic photos, so now there still exists a photo of me taking the place of Candy in this photo, here.
(I don't remember what use rights she gave me, so I'm not going to put it here, but it was very faithful to the original!)
@sinituulia Nice! The trans women of this age and place were something special.
They should make a movie about those that were part of the Warhol east coast scene in the 60s and 70s.
@TaruViero To say that it was a wild time is a bit of an understatement!
