TikTok ban... I don't get it. Banning the vices that people want to use has never worked. We have known this all too well since the days of Prohibition.
I don't know what the right solution is, but a ban for users isn't it.
What are we trying to achieve ? Maybe go after people that sell consumer data in your own country first.
@TheDJ They're not banning the vice, only a particular brand of it. Prohibit one seller of vodka and people will switch to the other sellers of vodka (Facebook, YouTube).
@nemobis but they wont. People will still use what is already on their phone for at least a year. Because ppl move slowly.
TikTok will launch a webapp with basic functionality (thats what i would do at least) and there will be another hole to plug.
It’s gonna be so much pain, only for ppl to move onto another Chinese app and hate how their government limits their ‘freedom’.
Or Trump will make some totally unrelated deal that will include opening this back up. It’s theatre.
@TheDJ Most TikTok users probably have YouTube and Instagram apps on their phones, so it's a safe bet that those competitors will gain some market share (in terms of minutes spent on their services). How much I have no idea. TikTok is reportedly planning to shut down everything, SOPA blackout style.
