@WarnerCrocker It cannot be classified, they discussed it on a public service not fit for discussing official work issues (e.g. no message retention as mandated by law), and invited him?
@yacc143 I'm not clear on the details, but it seems to me whether you discuss it in a non-sanctioned digital medium or in a bar I don't think that removes the classification.
@WarnerCrocker
Classic MAGA: attack the messenger to distract from the real crime (the Espionage Act).
@Crispius True. But that's classic politics without regard for party or affiliation.
@WarnerCrocker
There’s some truth to this, but MAGA has turned it an art-form.
Did you see the video of Hegseth blowing his stack when questioned about the chat?
@Crispius I'd actually argue they've actually debased it as an art-form. They do it so poorly. That video is prove of that.
@WarnerCrocker Jeffrey Goldberg has been at this game too long. I am sure he and the Atlantic have taken all the legal advice they need.
@WarnerCrocker he could publish the hash, and they could verify it.
But that's too complicated for them, I guess, so he could simply publish the first letter of each word - easily verifiable, and completely useless if you don't know the contents.
@WarnerCrocker seems like the trap works both ways. Current admin position is that the messages don’t contain classified information. You’d have to admit they do to prosecute, wouldn’t you?
@BilldeWorde7a The tragi-comedy farce aspect of this is that everybody knows what happened and it's now all about trying to catch which fools says the wrong thing at the wrong time. When everyone starts saying lots of wrong things then it becomes more offal tossed into the mix.
@BilldeWorde7a @WarnerCrocker So they should be able to release the full text if they deem it unclassified.
@lynnedubois @BilldeWorde7a It's obviously classified, so they won't. It's a shell game at this point.
@WarnerCrocker @BilldeWorde7a Agree. They'll have a secret meeting to decide who will take the fall.
@lynnedubois @BilldeWorde7a Yeah. They' won't do that one on Signal.
@WarnerCrocker @lynnedubois they’re trying to have it both ways. I guess it remains to be seen if people will let them.
@BilldeWorde7a @WarnerCrocker they will admit it. And nothing will happened. They are in power.
@tdelmas @WarnerCrocker this is true, but how long they remain in power and what the rebuild looks like are still up for grabs. I suspect admitting it hurts them in some way or they wouldn’t be tying themselves in knots to avoid it so far.
@WarnerCrocker I don't think they are that smart at all, but what if they're ALMOST that smart. What if the point of adding him to the chat was to generate a reason to shut down The Atlantic.
@apodoxus In my opinion that doesn't reach the bar of ALMOST.
@WarnerCrocker It doesn't matter what the administration says. Every MAGA already hates The Atlantic, and every non-MAGA knows who the liars are. I'm pretty sure The Atlantic is aware of this as well, and is not even tempted to leak. If I were the editor, I'd get good personal protection, though, because I don't trust the government not to try to disappear him.
@WarnerCrocker
They are easy to figure out. They are experts at shifting blame...
@BuckRogers1965 @GatekeepKen @WarnerCrocker A Mystery Men reference? Ahhh, this makes my day!
@WarnerCrocker well, if it is a trap I guess it has now been sprung.
