The FSF's got a lot of damn nerve, asking me for EXTRA money on top of my $140/yr associate membership right now.
Letting RMS just sashay his way as publicly as possible back into the lead role--with neither significant remorse expressed nor visible changes made--put this one directly in the "no, hell no, and in fact get out of my damn office" pile.
Are you listening, @fsf ?
@jimsalter What should they be listening to exactly? RMS hasn’t done anything wrong so why should remorse be express about anything? And he still has things to say on the topic of software freedom which are worth listening to more so than from other people. @fsf
@amszmidt @jimsalter @fsf Nothing wrong? At best and I mean at best he is a pedophile apologist. Not someone I would want running anything.
@blake@corteximplant.com instant block. Nothing of what you said is true, and you know it.
@cabbagebeets@fosstodon.org maybe you should read more. Also, not interested in your misunderstanding of what is actually written. *plonk*
@amszmidt you are fanboying so hard it is sickening. You are the one worthy of a block.
@amszmidt it took THIRTEEN YEARS to convince the man that "voluntary pedophilia" was not harmful. Which would be one thing if it was something he thought, in the privacy of his own head, and occasionally talked with friends about privately.
But no, he professes this stuff publicly, with no regard for the weight his own public profile puts behind his words EVEN WHEN THEY'RE EXTREMELY HARMFUL. I don't think he is a deliberately malicious person, but he is unfit to lead. Period.
@jimsalter Sorry but having an option is neither harmful or evil, most of this is perfectly legal in the majority of the western world already. You accused someone of having done something, opinion and action are not the same. The slander nonsense is a bunch of out of context purposefully misrepresented garbage written by one individual with an axe to grind.
@jimsalter leading means having useful options on the actual topic, as such he is perfectly capable of doing so. This is just you disliking a person because of their option, and just a form of bullying at this point.
@amszmidt no, bullying is when I call you a blinkered idiot with the awareness of a pine cone. Don't you have a "plonk" to smugly pronounce yet?
The polite part of this discussion is over.
@jimsalter You never where polite. You started with an accusatory tone and are now trying to bully me to timidity. You're the type of crazy American that caused Trump to win, since you're incapable of accepting others. *plonk*
@fink "Did" -- having opinions is not doing. Most of those cherry picked, and totally misrepresented on purpose opinions are entirely uncontroversial in most of the Western world in either case (the USA being an exception, mostly since you managed to get a fascist into power -- great job!).
If you're not interested in having an actual conversation though and instead just want to post slander by all means ...
@amszmidt @fsf look. I have a wry fondness for the man, myself. And yes, the free software--AND open source software--world has benefited greatly from work he did 30+ years ago. Nothing will erase that.
But nothing will erase him handing "pleasure cards" to teenagers in his own industry at professional functions, either. More to the point, nothing seems to STOP him doing that. And that's not his only professional issue, but frankly it's PLENTY to keep him from being a leader.
@amszmidt @fsf you've also already been shown a copy of the Stallman Report, which you refuse to acknowledge despite the majority of it literally being a simple record of the things RMS has personally said in public.
There are the rest of the issues with RMS, including the beam that broke the camel's back, when he decided to slander Virginia Giuffre in defense of an MIT colleague who he later admitted that he didn't even KNOW very well.
He. Is. Not. Fit. To. Lead.
