@arstechnica i have a crazy idea that maybe they should hire more postal workers to handle the increased workload

@thatKomputerKat @arstechnica first I demand that Congress rollback the heinous requirement that the USPS pre-funds all employees' pensions

@arstechnica This is exactly what the wanted to happen by hamstringing .

@arstechnica okay. So this epitomises one of my hobby horses about why rich people should pay more tax. In our wealthy countries we have public services, like the post, but also police, health, education and welfare. These services we all pay for through our taxes. But some people and organizations clearly get a lot more leverage out of them, because they can make quadrillions from a well organized, orderly and well-behaved society. They should pay for that privilege. Because most people do not burden/exploit the system through their 'enterprise'. Profit is a privilege not a right.

@arstechnica it is almost like there is demand for a postal system or something. Since I live in a city, I also prefer my packages are left in a locked mail box or at the post office where I can collect them without the temptation of theft. I am not a business with employees standing by to receive things during work hours.

@arstechnica Sounds like a great job growth opportunity for the USPS?

@arstechnica
WTF can't Amazon just mail these rural packages like anyone else?

@arstechnica Holy crap so Amazon's atrocious management is now starting to leak out into the real world?

@arstechnica @megatronicthronbanks Nope. USPS has repeatedly been hamstrung by the right in order to make it fail. A properly funded USPS wouldn’t have this issue.

@arstechnica Alternate headlines:
✅ "USPS fails to sustain adequate service capacity to meet contractual commitments to its customers & its mission to US citizens"
✅ "Ars Technica commits to same levels of editorial bias as Fox Business"

I dislike Amazon but blatantly putting your thumb on the scales like this is childish & irresponsible.

@arstechnica my parents are in a small (~600 on a good year) rural part of GA; most times when they get more than 1 package or a large package, the local post office kicks it back to the county post and let's them deliver it.

Sometimes, the county post will be so backed up, they send it back to the ATL distribution center, for it to get sent back at a later time. I assume it's an accident but who knows.
