GM adds the ability to power your house from one of its new EVs
GM's Ultium-based EVs can power your house during an outage.
@arstechnica 36s to pick up from a mains failure? Seems excessive.
@johnefrancis Seems more than a little advertorial. IIRC Ford has been shipping a pickup that does this for about a year now and nary a mention of them.
@arstechnica Makes sense, it’s about the size of a one-bedroom flat in a European country.
@arstechnica Do they support CarPlay, though?
@arstechnica sounds like an appeal to suburban life... no thanks
@arstechnica
I know people who have been doing this for years at no extra cost. They have to switch it manually though.
@arstechnica Hyundai and KIA EVs can do that. @TechConnectify has episode where he tested it.
@arstechnica shows just how much energy it takes to drives 4 ton behemoth 3 miles to the grocery store to get a gallon of milk
One of the things that comes with electric vehicles, solar and solar gear and house batteries is a sense of magnitude - dishwasher vs water heater vs driving a few blocks vs tumble drier.
LED lights can be on all year if you hang the laundry to dry a few times instead of tumble drying and you come out ahead. It is pretty wild.
