HDMI 2.2 will require new “Ultra96” cables, whenever we have 8K TVs and content
The physical connector is, confusingly but expectedly, the same.

@arstechnica only costs more than the TV.
@leifdavisson @arstechnica that better be made from solid gold conductors.
That's AudioQuest though. They sell a £1849 1.5 meter ethernet cable. That company isn't known for rational pricing.

That's a joke or misprint, right?
@godzero @arstechnica check the link

I did and I thought that it must be a data entry error.
@arstechnica No. There's no need for 8K TVs. There's NO NEED FOR 8K TVS.
@jenny753 @arstechnica It is truly telling that they haven't been able to force 8K becoming a thing yet for no good reason like happened with 4K.
@jenny753 @arstechnica
So true! I doubt that people with perfect eyesight can tell the difference. I know I can't because I'm getting old.
@arstechnica They're going to roll out 8K after net neutrality is dead and buried so we can all blow through our data caps and pay every last cent to our ISPs.
@arstechnica I love it when every spec upgrade gets a new superlative like 'super' or 'ultra', because one day it'll be normal and we'll need a stronger word for the next one.
Trad climbing is the best for this, where difficulty basically starts at "difficult" and IIRC goes up to "hard very severe" before they gave up and called everything "extreme"
@trantion
good
plus good
double plus good
extreme
@arstechnica When can we force TVs to also have the latest DisplayPort ports and specification in addition to HDMI ports?
