Now that social media is scattered, I think it's finally time to set up an Indie Web-esque "post (even short stuff) on my own site and automatically post it to Mastodon, Threads, et al.
I've got a WordPress site and I'm not looking to move off of that anytime soon; does anyone have any good resources on how to make that happen?
@brad_frost i use Pipedream (pipedream.com) to monitor my RSS and post here on new blog posts. I _believe_ you would be able to do that on their free tier too.
@brad_frost Well … come to #Indiewebcamp in Berlin with @jkphl and @tantek.com ;)
But jokes aside. The wiki is a good start (https://indieweb.org/) and on that one the Wordpress section (https://indieweb.org/WordPress). I myself am not using Wordpress, but I heard there is plenty of good solutions out for Wordpress already.
@marcthiele @jkphl @tantek.com BE RIGHT THERE
@brad_frost @marcthiele @jkphl @tantek.com I was going to say exactly the same as Marc
@brad_frost it's honestly too bad...WordPress's founding premise was exactly that! But yea...it's not easy to make that happen on WP these days.
@iambateman @brad_frost why not use the ActivityPub plugin and ditch mastodon altogether? It'd be like posting the same thing twice to the Fediverse anyway...
@brad_frost Here’s how I was (somewhat) able to wrap my mind around it. https://css-tricks.com/de-mystifying-indieweb-on-a-wordpress-site/
@geoff HELL YEAH thank you so much!
@brad_frost @Edent has written some stuff that might be relevant to you…
He writes a lot so you might need to search his blog
@andydavies @brad_frost
Yup, the JetPack plugin will post to Threads, Mastodon, and LinkedIn.
The ActivityPub plugin turns your blog into a full AP client.
For BlueSky, you can either use RSS2BSky or set up a bridgyfed account from Mastodon.
All a bit tangled!
Happy to chat if you need advice.

@brad_frost I tried setting this up but a few things to consider:
* I enjoy the conversations and FOLLOWING the conversations on each site is not a solved problem. (having them post back to my WP site sounds overwhelming)
* Each site has different lengths so unless you're posting a SHORT blurb and URL, you're not saying much.
* I don't want to post all of my social media to my blog
* I like to scroll and be inspired, so I go to these sites anyway
Just saying it's more complex than I thought
@scottjenson 100%. That all checks out and I share many of those sentiments.
I'm mostly looking to only have to author things in one place and blast it out to multiple places. The manual carrying over to a bunch of places is annoying and tedious. I'd like to streamline that and then visit the channels to continue the conversation.
@brad_frost ohh, then maybe the simplest solution is to use something like the Fedica app for those times you publish. It lets you compose once and blast out to all sites you've set up. No WP integration required
@scottjenson this is something I’ve been chewing over for my own (ssssllllloooowwwwwllllyyyy) emerging personal site. It turns out current CMSs are uniformly terrible at this model, but building your own CMS is even more terrible…
@brad_frost the activitypub plugin will do it for WP to fediverse. Then there’s a jet pack social plugin that will do that for things like LinkedIn
@johnallsopp Fantastic, thank you! This very much looks like what I'm after. I appreciate it!
@brad_frost Wordpress has automatic tools now that will fully federate it and/or post to a Mastodon account. I am not sure about Threads.
