Hundreds more publications have joined the Fediverse through Flipboard's federation. Here's the first thread, I'll do another tomorrow.
If an account posts too much, try following one of its "sub-accounts" instead, as mentioned in each post. Alternatively use Mastodon's Lists feature.

Seems a little hyped, no? How many of these publications have even heard of Flipboard, let alone Mastodon?
Flipboard’s just a middleman platform—it doesn’t bring a publication’s team, and doubtful even their attention, and certainly not their engagement, to Mastodon. It just brings snippets of content to lure you to #Flipboard (if you’re not careful what you click on).
I think I’ll just hold out for the publications and their staff to join #Mastodon in an official capacity.
@brianstorms @FediFollows Seems like the links go directly to the pubs website. This may have not been the case in the past. I'm down for it, if a pub hasn't migrated here yet given the continued bleakness of Twitter they might not ever.
Yeah, the links are direct to the publishers' own sites. If you follow NPR it will just be stories with links direct to npr.org for example. The only way you would see Flipboard pages is if you were already browsing the flipboard site or app anyway.
Also, the federation is full activitypub, they can follow Mastodon etc accounts from Flipboard if they want to. The more of us follow and interact with them from here, the more likely they are to explore this audience.
@brianstorms @FediFollows this sounds like a whole bunch of trademark violations waiting to be prosecuted
I think there's some misunderstanding here?
Flipboard isn't scraping sites without permission, these accounts belong to the publications themselves. Some of them have links to their Flipboard account from their own websites, see the attached screenshot. (Taken from https://www.pcgamer.com)
By the way, for what it's worth, I've only listed Flipboard accounts if they don't already have an active official Mastdon etc account. I checked each one before making the thread.
Here's another example of a publication discussing its Flipboard presence:

These accounts have been going for years, but until now they were isolated from other platforms. The reason I'm posting about them is they are now connected to the Fediverse in both directions: we can follow them, they can follow us.
Hopefully if enough people from the Fedi start following and interacting with them, that they will notice the Fedi more.
