A polar bear floated over to Iceland from (presumably) Greenland. Which is such an amazing feat of nature that I didn’t know was happening regularly. And they immediately shot and killed it. My god. It should be globally illegal to immediately shoot and kill an endangered creature? I’m so sad. https://grapevine.is/news/2024/09/19/polar-bear-spotted-in-iceland/
@carlysagan the headline had me half expecting a story about climate change making polar bears go to unusual places, but it turned out to be worse
@ShadSterling it’s heartbreaking! Apparently they normally get shipped back to Greenland but some article said Greenland doesn’t want to do that anymore bc of fear of spreading disease. I’m really disappointed Iceland wouldn’t do something like attempting a nature reserve for them or something. Ugh!
@carlysagan not much you can do with a starving apex predator. It would absolutely eat some folks, heh
@remote_orb why couldn’t they make a reserve for it? That would create jobs and tourist money. Heck, I’d love to work at a polar bear reserve lol
@carlysagan yeah, I dunno, small country without much public interest in something like that I would think. And after a while, when you’ve got six or ten of these, what do you do?
