This year, a 30-second Super Bowl ad costs $7 million.

The average K-12 public school lunch debt is about $22,600.

To Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis' point, the cost of that Jesus ad could pay off the lunch debt of 310 schools.

As Christians, we need to walk the walk. This ad isn't walking.

@charlotteclymer too many Christians ignore that part of the teaching

@SousLeRadar @charlotteclymer The irony is that what Muslims do for the poor (and awareness about the problems of poverty) during Ramadan is more than Christianity typically manages.

@charlotteclymer to be fair, spending that money on schools wouldn't do anything to whitewash the behavior of evangelical churches in the US over the last decade. I'm not sure the ad will, but that's certainly what it's there for

@charlotteclymer but that sounds like socialism, and everyone knows Jesus would never give people free bread if that inconvenienced wealthy people.

@charlotteclymer

The ad is also paid for by folks who oppose reproductive justice and who support homophobic and transphobic policies and candidates.

I don't even pretend to gatekeep Christianity, but I do know that Jesus said we'd recognize Christians by their actions rather than their proclamations.

@charlotteclymer Hey, I thought the ad is for whitewashing, is it not? Even a tomb must be painted white to cover up the unclean things inside, that's what Jesus in the Bible said. In the other news, Republican Jesus said, "Great job, my shills."

@charlotteclymer Hey, I thought the ad is for whitewashing, is it not? Even a tomb must be painted white to cover up the unclean things inside, that's what Jesus in the Bible said. In the other news, Republican Jesus said, "****ing great job, my shills."

@charlotteclymer That Jesus ad was Christianity in a nutshell.

@charlotteclymer if only we had a truly representative government, not this 50/50 quagmire of media bs and religiously motivated propaganda

@charlotteclymer
Oh there's "self described Christians" that walk THEIR walk in Jackboots and hidden swastikas & hand signals. That's the group that's Anti-LGBTQ+ & is playing the deception game cleverly.
The "He Gets Us" ad is sponsored by a Hate group & extremist #Christofascists who are also connected with Hobby Lobby's David Green--a conservative christian with a myriad of scandals. Don't fall for their Fascist Republican Jesus. It's really bald faced Anti-Christianity at its core.

@charlotteclymer Do better. If you don’t, it’s just a Sunday Story Club.

@charlotteclymer can we also acknowledge that ‘lunch debt’ shouldn’t be a thing in a country with the amount of wealth as America?

@charlotteclymer

Christianity hasn't been "walking the walk" for 2,000 years. The whole cult is about control. That cult literally lead military campaigns in other nations because they didn't like other cults.

@charlotteclymer The ads miss the point. Jesus does not need to “get” us, we need to “get” Jesus.

@NattyBumppo @charlotteclymer The Roman soldiers already did that. "It's Jesus! Get him!"

@charlotteclymer
I thought they were better than the usual nonsense ads
Worth 7 million, maybe

@charlotteclymer There may have been a reason I read that comment as "walk the water", but I can't fathom it...

@charlotteclymer The Jesus ad is about as cynical a move as anyone could make. The church is broken and lacks any moral high ground.

@charlotteclymer I identify as an atheist but one of those ads showing the discourse in society was good and we all needed to see it. Saying Jesus can help that when I feel like religion is the root cause of so many wars and our discourse and violence towards each other. People are just so angry and now they're also armed. #HobbyLobby should be embarrassed and I for one have never and will never step foot in that store! Be well. ❤️🌈❤️

@charlotteclymer oh please, like Christians actually care about children. Except when they're molesting them.

@charlotteclymer They actually ran a second ad towards the end of the game, so double that.

@charlotteclymer As Caesar said: give them bread and circuses.

... And it still applies.

@charlotteclymer@mastodon.social lunch debt per student? that's $10.25 a meal. I understand inflation or whatever, but who can afford $52 a week for a student's meals?

@charlotteclymer I saw 2 ads, one 30 seconds & the other 60 seconds.

youtu.be/f5x1RyJOwP8 (Love your enemies 60 seconds)

youtu.be/ogLX2heol5E (Be childlike)

$7 million for 30 seconds means they paid $21 million for two ads. My question is who funded that‽ I have no problems with them using the money this way if they are also helping the poor too. I am just curious about the sponsors.

hegetsus.com/

@darnell @charlotteclymer

I mean it's "He get sus".

It's probably some Peter Theil/Rebecca Mercer group.

@charlotteclymer Some carry a cross on their chests, some on their backs.

@charlotteclymer I was waiting to see that ad and it was garbage. Exactly what I expected from its phony Christian sponsor.

Real Christianity is quiet and unexciting. It's quite difficult for many people. It's not a weapon. It's not something you can use to beat other people over the head with.

Unfortuately, this is boring to many people and frustrating to those who want to bust heads yet still claim Christianity because of the perceived perks it brings. So they keep trying to weaponize it.

@charlotteclymer but it's not about talking the walk. It's about promoting Christian nationalism.
Ut's seemingly political, and proof that we are far from safe from the fascist takeover.
#DefendDemocracy
#SmashFascism

@charlotteclymer
We have means testing for welfare recipients. The same should happen for churches - if you're not helping the community, then you gotta pay taxes.

As I've boosted this, I just wanted to say that this applies no matter your faith.

@charlotteclymer Don't be fooled. These guys are "out to get you".

@charlotteclymer Hypocrisy is the cornerstone of Christianity

@charlotteclymer Yeah, also that whole love your enemies thing. The stuff these particular Christians are supporting with regard to deploying the power of the state to make trans people including kids and their parents suffer more doesn't seem particularly loving to me, but what do I know I'm not a Christian.

@arush @charlotteclymer Of course, “school lunch debt” are 3 words that should not exist together.

@charlotteclymer I just read an article about the people behind these ads and I was not surprised who is supporting them. They are aimed at MAGA evangelicals so they will reconsider some of their actions since 2016. I’m sorry but the people who embraced this cult will not be influenced by these ads. And that line that Jesus loves the people we hate??? Really? And what did Jesus say was the greatest commandment? Love your neighbor as yourself? He commanded us to love not hate.

@charlotteclymer Make laws where churches lose the 100% tax deduction, need to be true not for profit, and are imposed to live on a normal living wage and you will unearth the true believers of the world. I can honestly count the legitimate true believers I have ever met in my life on one hand. They're out there but far fewer than are seen. Jesus: Funding sinners for 2000 years and counting. He gets us. Mark 7:6

@charlotteclymer Median annual household income in the US is about $67,500, or almost 1/4 of one second of one Super Bowl ad.
