Valencia is a lot like California. it’s considered one of the “bread basket” regions of Spain. it produces most of the tomatoes, oranges and olive oil for exports.
these floods are going to have devastating consequences to the food supply in Spain and all of Europe.
the price of olive oil is going to sky rocket world wide. Spain produces something like half of all the olive oil used worldwide. Italy and Greece depend on Spanish olive oil for their brands.
@blogdiva Olive oil price is already high, partly cos of fires in Greece. Climate change is real folks
@fbuontempo @blogdiva ah, funny story about that, olive oil supply has dried, since because of the heat and drought, the olive trees simply aren't flowering. That happened 3 or four years ago, and the national olive oil reserve finally got wiped out last year. I don't think you have noticed it that much yet, because the export quota has been fulfilled, but we sure have noticed it. We haven't really "run out" since prices are so jacked up nobody can buy it, but... Give it one or two years more.
@aintasenatorson @blogdiva Interesting, Thanks for this.
