It's quite disheartened just how apparent it is becoming that BSky doesn't want to be a part of the #fediverse but wants instead to compete with and, presumably, extinguish it. Or have I misread what The Atmosphere is all about?

Would much rather see collaboration, not this naked, tech-bro, testosterone-rich competition.
@hallenbeck we can only wait and see. It does seem like a very corporate version of AP, with the exception that you have to connect to corporate servers.
However, it's still very much in active development, so I've put it on a "wait and see".
They do seem to plan on decentralization, but how far it'll go and if you'll be able to eventually disconnect from Bluesky altogether at some point remains to be seen.
@BeAware The only thing I'm interested in with regards to Bluesky development is what their plans are for interop with AP and how they plan to become a part of fedi, not spin up an alternative competing fedi. Ultimately, I'd like to see ideas from both worlds combined into one standardised, interoperable whole. But I get the sense in their comms and persistent lack of acknowledgement of AP that they see AP as a failure and AT as the one true protocol.
@hallenbeck their plan, as far as I can tell, is no plan at all.
Bridgy fed is their way of doing that.
They probably won't go further.
@BeAware why would they? VC funding tends to necessitate a certain degree of selfishness, for better or for worse. It's the nature of the beast.
@hallenbeck facts. It's also the reason that Threads barely discusses the Fediverse and hides it behind 3 menus.
