I prefer to write programs once, that solve problems forever.
Of course, some things go obsolete over time. My port of the ARC file archiver back in the 1980s to Unix, IBM mainframe, Atari ST, and Amiga made it the most ubiquitous file compression tool and format in the world, back then. (MacArc also existed but I wasn't involved in that.) Nowadays, while zip and others have superseded it, it's still used by malware scanners everywhere today.
