@itsfoss@mastodon.social The guy simply hated it lol #introduction #linux #linuxgaming
@linkachus17 @itsfoss If I was still around, they'd ask me for assistance. Otherwise they would end up buying a new computer with another os.
@hophophop@mastodon.social @itsfoss@mastodon.social Reminds me that my friend thought that all Laptops and PC's are Windows only. He don't know if you can install something else than Windows on a PC, like he would think you need a specific Laptop/PC to have Linux OS like MacOS only available in Macbook's and stuff #introduction #linux #linuxgaming
@itsfoss I only convinced myself
@itsfoss As someone who has been using Linux in some form for about 20 years - never once have I ever converted anybody to Linux.
"Converting" doesn't work. I believe most people will go back to some version of the same OS they were using before. It's ingrained habits, training, office skill carry-over, FOMO, blah blah blah.
I have simply used these devices in everyday life, and I occasionally was fortunate enough to help somebody out with a problem that cost next to nothing (OSS).
@itsfoss it didn't go well, but i won't give up.
@itsfoss not well. Most software still run only in CLI not GUI versions. And a usage of CLI kills time
@itsfoss Yes: my wife. I think it's
@itsfoss Whenever I had a priest taking care of the exorcism, things went pretty smooth.
@duxsco What did you do
@itsfoss A friend of mine switched to Fedora recently after completely ditching Windows, and is considering Arch Linux. I installed Arcolinux on his laptop a while ago, which eased his transition to GNU/Linux, I presume.
@magitian You did right by your friend.
@itsfoss I know people who put Windows on a Apple Machine. I personally try to switch to Linux and have a hard time of letting go... I personally think convenience and habits will beat "Tinkerer" mindset needed for Linux.
@itsfoss I switched my personal laptop from Windows to Linux Mint early this year. It had a lot of issues with the wifi card. Ended up buying a tiny usb dongle. Its my daily driver. Im a tinkerer though and have a lot of patience and interest in figuring this type of thing out.
