ffs!
this shit does not sound good at #BandCamp
The whole SongTradr thing is not sitting well with me, but BC is the only place I release and I have no real contingency. Self hosting sounds like a nightmare, but perhaps that's where we are headed?...
@yoniden The sticking point, I think, is how do self-hosters best collect payment? Plausibly maybe you tell people to use paypal and when you get paid email the zip file. But it's clunky and doesn't scale well.
@jamesbritt @yoniden here's a post from @jessica that shows one solution. I personally don't want to use AWS, but ymmv, as they say.

I used paypal w/an automated protected d/l system back in the day, haven't really looked into modern equivalents.

If you can handle not having direct access to the upload repository, you can bypass the S3 part and just upload directly into SendOwl for what it's worth.

I have my own colo server already, it's payment processing I'm curious about.
@jamesbritt @fstateaudio @yoniden
To be clear, SendOwl handles the download, order retention, AND payment processing side of things. You can choose from Stripe, PayPal, Apple Pay, so on and so forth.
I have no stake in SendOwl, but have been very impressed with how easy they make this particular solution.
@fstateaudio @yoniden @jessica
Ah . Never heard of SendOwl. Nice. Thank you!
@jamesbritt @fstateaudio @yoniden
Thanks for the shoutout, FSA and also I updated the post to reflect that S3 and AWS are optional to this process.

Downside to SendOwl: You're paying each month even if you're not selling.
