Genuinely, most interesting thing in this whole keynote is the hearing aid support in AirPods Pro.
And this is how you know I am in my 50s.
@jamesthomson i'm sure you know this, but getting a proper hearing aid in the US is monstrously complex and expensive. this could be the rare example of apple really being as revolutionary as they claim to be.
@s @jamesthomson it's the same the world over I think, way too expensive for what they are
@s @jamesthomson If they manage to get a blood sugar sensor on a watch that will probably be even more profound
@spitfire i think anyone who manages to invent a blood sugar sensor that doesn't require a blood sample deserves a nobel prize.
@s I believe there already are some, it’s a matter of reliability/size. Not interested in that personally as I have no use for that (yet?),but I know this would be a huge help for a lot of people.
@spitfire reliability is indeed the trick. an unreliable blood sugar sensor is in fact slightly less useful than no sensor at all :)
@jamesthomson I'm in my 20s and I agree!
@jamesthomson Agreed - everything else was “we made things a bit better” but that was huge.
@jamesthomson If I can expand - my mum got hearing aids a year ago or so? She’s very happy with them, but maybe some new AirPods would be worth exploring.
@jamesthomson If only they made them so they stayed in your ears.
@jamesthomson As a fellow 50+ year old, i’m going to say,
@jamesthomson I like AirPods 4, my ears prefer open ear headphones.
@jamesthomson I turn 31 tomorrow and I’m right there with you.
@jamesthomson In my 40s and can’t say I disagree!
@jamesthomson Age aside (also 50 here) I think it’s genuinely one of the better things they’ve done in years, if it’s good. The fact that it doesn’t need new hardware is also interesting.
@jamesthomson
Is that Tides app exclusive to the new model watches, and if so, why? They're basically Sherlocking a number of third-party apps that have done exactly the same thing for many years.
@freediverx Don't know, but I would suspect so.
@jamesthomson I feel you in my 40s
@jamesthomson Same, and I’m delighted that the AirPods Pro I have now will be able to do it.
@jamesthomson Sleep apnea thing was interesting too. I’m in my late 30s;)
@jamesthomson Give it another 10 years.
@jamesthomson
Being on the cusp of 70, I say WHAT?
@jamesthomson I've been busy the last couple hours, including a trip to the nearest Apple Store to get a phone battery replaced. I sense that they did not announce a new iPad mini? Because that's the one piece of kit I am actally in the market for now.
@roadskater I think the rumours are for a separate event with new Macs too.
@jamesthomson From your lips to Tim's ear.
Maybe I did see rumors last week about a possible M4 Mac in the works. But I've gotten so tired of hot air Apple rumors in the financial news that I rarely read past the headlines.
I certainly hope they do actually get the FDA nod. Not finalized yet.
@jamesthomson this and the sleep apnea detection were the only interesting things. everything else was a recap of the previous event or about the new camera button. filled with much more superfluous self-aggrandizing words than usual, even for Apple. lol
@jamesthomson They've had that in the past, but when I tried it with the 2nd gen AirPod Pros, they were still too quiet. That might just be me having a more than "moderate" hearing loss since birth though, hahah.
@jamesthomson I don’t know what the market’s like in the UK, but with a starting price of $2K (my dad’s are $7K), thank you, Apple!
(this is how you know I’m in my *late* 50s )
@coachmike66 You can get stuff free on the NHS, but it's rarely the best. A lot of private options are available at high cost.
@jamesthomson i don’t think it’s that. it was the only ‘good’ and ‘different’ feature.
@jamesthomson same. I got bored and turned it off. So tired of AI talk.
