That a Western democracy uses mass repression against climate activists is not the an aberration of the democratic principle but the fullest conclusion of it. Democracy emerged at a specific historical context contingent on the development of the capitalist mode of production and of the exploitation of fossil fuels to fuel the valorization process. @abolisyonista Actually democracy allows for peaceful protests like this and the part of the protest that did not hinder traffic, which is unlawful and was therefore forbidden, was fine. Following the law is not repression. Also, democracy works fine without capitalism, so there is no problem getting rid of that, while keeping democracy. As flawed as it is, it is still the best we have - unless you can offer a better alternative, of course. Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater.
