To migrate to a new #Mastodon #instance:
1. Find a new server.
You can either use this great #tool by @TheKinrar to help you choose:
https://instances.social
Or the official tool (with a limited selection):
https://joinmastodon.org/servers
2. Create a profile on the new #server
3. Next, redirect both #profiles to each other:
.../settings/migration (Move.../Moving...)
4. You can optionally choose to export & import your data: .../settings/export
@madeindex @TheKinrar @Benaresh This is all ridiculously complex & unnecessary....
#Mastodon is pretty customizable to offer people many choices not usually available to users on other #socialmedia platforms. More choices also means more complexity ;)
Like on other platforms, you can also choose to simply make a new #account on another #server.
A lot depends on your reason for moving :)
@madeindex This is already my second account, after starting from scratch.... I really don't have the inclination to do it all again - sorry....
@madeindex I needed to do this after a node I was connected to imploded. The implementation of this tool is what will keep me active here. Gives me easy access to hop from instance to instance.
@mrgrumpymonkey One of the great things about
@madeindex Thanks for the follow as well. I'm not sure why anyone would want to read my nonsense, but I appreciate it.
@mrgrumpymonkey haha only here for Goobie and Tali of course
Original nonsense is the best & rare these days
@madeindex That does seem to get me those random followers & retoots & favorites.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
People fascinate me sometimes.
