My single biggest #UI wish for #Ivory @ivory is to add an option to disable all the cell swipe actions and add a “swipe anywhere to go back” feature. (Similarly to Twitter, the Mastodon official client, Woolly, Mammoth, and many other apps).
It would greatly improve single-handed use (with a right hand, that is).
Alternatively, a swipe on Tab Bar to go back a la @apolloapp would be an improvement.
@ivory @apolloapp
My second biggest #UI wish for #Ivory is to have a clearer way to present threads in the main timeline. Currently replies are missing the context of the post they are responding too, so they tend to contribute to adding noise. To be fair, not many clients get this right.
Take a look at @elk and @phanpy, by contrast. The context is preserved and the conversation is much easier to follow right in the timeline.
@maffeis @ivory @apolloapp @elk @phanpy Mona works this way
@maffeis We will be improving threading in the future. Just have to get through our initial roadmap first.
@ivory nice to hear, thanks! :) Any thoughts on my previous comments on navigation? I understand “swipe anywhere to go back” is not a default pattern on iOS, but it's well established now and I think it really makes the difference on single-handed navigation, especially on bigger phones. I also understand it would clash with the cell swipe actions, hence my suggestion to make it optional (or to implement it on the Tab Bar like Apollo did, although that is less established/discoverable).
@maffeis That's something we will have to look into when we do update our swipe gestures. We don't know if it will conflict with other gestures. Would need extensive testing on our end first.
@ivory Cool! Thanks for replying!
@tuomas_h @ivory I've never had such a problem in the apps I used. I don't know about Instagram, but there are definitely nuances in the way the feature would be implemented. It should be “cancelable” (like the standard swipe from edge) and not easy to trigger inadvertently. But yeah, might be pragmatic to have it optional.
Personally I prefer the former to to the Tab Bar gesture, but at this point I’d take either, as long as I can use it with one hand without getting carpal tunnel syndrome!
@maffeis @ivory The way it’s implemented in Instagram (I use that as an example because I don’t have any other apps that do it) is definitely cancellable if you do it intentionally, but when I trigger it by accident it’s always with a “flick scroll” gesture that goes just a little bit too much sideways (I’m used to iOS not requiring too much precision in finger direction there). By the time I realise it’s happening my finger is already off the screen and there’s nothing I can do to cancel it.
@maffeis hey, have you tried @trunksapp ? It's pretty great so far.

No, I think the Material-esque UI style feels a bit out of place on iOS
@maffeis if you were an Android user, I would suggest you @SubwayTooter , but since you aren't....well, ok!
At least trunks is pretty good at threads.
