It was the "internet before the internet," where young people in the '80s communicated and used it much like today's social networks. Instead of the internet, you dialed a phone number to access a single "site"
There, you could exchange messages, download small games and graphics—but you had to stay connected the whole time! And if the BBS was in the US or Asia, you were in for a surprise on your phone bill.
