EU Commission launches DMA investigation against Meta over "Pay or Okay"!
They suspect that the system breaches the DMA rules on data combination and doesn't give users a real choice.

@noybeu I still don't understand how German publishers are allowed to offer what they call "pure" subscriptions or force people to be tracked otherwise. Seems the same concept.
@benjaoming @noybeu Ah, you're right it's documented here https://noyb.eu/en/pay-or-okay-beginning-end
I was somehow under the impression that some German authority deemed them legal given how literally every German news site forces you to either consent or pay up. Glad that this is not really the case and we will hopefully see this outlawed.
@leonidas @noybeu yes, it's the same concept and I cannot understand, why Austrian and German DPAs blessed it. Looks like a blatant breach of #GDPR and #ePrivacy to me.
Currently these decisions and Metas "pay or okay" business model are discussed in the #EDPB and are brought to Austrian courts by @noybeu .
Thank you @noybeu
@noybeu this is really great news, although this EC decision targets Meta (and indirectly the big gatekeepers) only.
