@rasterweb@mastodon.socialI have been thinking about how the Fediverse doesn't lack amazing and smart and funny people, and for most people what it lacks is their friends.
Their friends are on some corporate billionaire owned social media, and they won't leave because their friends are there... it's a vicious cycle/circle. But it can be broken.
If you've ever moved to a new town, or started a new job, or gone through a breakup you know the pain of "starting over" and that starting over can be scary for people... but you can also meet new people, and make new friends, and discover new things, and that can be amazing.
Lately for some people the allure of "where my friends are" isn't enough to keep them on corporate billionaire owned social media, or at least they are fleeing it for other things, hopefully the Fediverse, but even Bluesky is better than Twitter or Meta or TikTok right now. Maybe the folks fleeing to Bluesky will see that get enshittified and eventually move to the Fediverse... We can hope.
@rasterweb Yeah. This has been a tough one for me. Largely what it's looked like is meeting new people here. Not that folks over on Bluesky etc aren't still my friends, we just don't talk as often. There are many awesome people here, too.
@rasterweb @vmstan This is one of the downsides to the Fediverse. I hope it changes sometime.
