In another news... Microsoft pulls Windows 11 24H2 from Insider Release Preview Channel Because of Recall Generating Nothing But Negative Press. Not a single person want this feature, I guess. Lmao. theregister.com/2024/06/10/mic Who wants a fully surveillance-enabled computer that records everything you do, including your password, in an SQL database? This is a wet dream for three-letter agents and threat actors.

@nixCraft
microsoft gets lot of bad publicity for this. but as a reminder, others are not so good either.

when is apple's turn. apple does have some kind of file storing feature for different versions, i think it is time machine.

PCWorld · Google is working on a Recall-like feature for Chromebooks, tooBy Mark Hachman

Let's not conflate Apple's Time Machine feature with Microsoft's Recall or whatever Google's version of Recall is.

Time Machine is Apple's backup solution to protect against data loss in the event a user suffers a catastrophic data loss event or accidentally deletes a file. It makes incremental backups to an external hard drive or USB. Those backups are stored locally and can be encrypted. You can exclude files or directories that you don't want backed up. And it's disabled by default, so it's opt-in, and you can turn it on/off whenever.

The backups are not stored on any cloud service, Apple is not taking "screenshots" of your screen every few seconds or storing text/images in an SQL database, and they are not scanning your backups for any kind of analytics or data training for AI or other purposes.

I think most people would agree having a backup solution in place is a good idea for data recovery, whether they use Apple's built-in Time Machine or a third-party backup software/solution.

Apple built in Time Machine and made it easy to use because most computer users are non-technical and have no idea how to set up more complex backup solutions/software.

technically correct, but i don't trust apple.

apple collects data like other companies and totally controls their devices. apple already has co-processor in their m-chips, i think it is called neural engine. it can be used for a.i. analysis.

apple probably gets away from this and blames competitors for their bad practices.
