My wife who has never supported a patreon and who never uses the Apple Podcasts app: “moving paid podcasts into the app really changed the game.”

Now she uses the Apple app because she can get exclusive shows easier than on Patreon. Her review of the app is that it isn’t great, but it’s easy to get shows.

Would love to see a Patreon API or something that apps like Overcast/Pocket Casts could use to make paid shows easier to get.

@matt It does support Apple’s argument on why they feel entitled to 30% cut. Because they do help facilitate a transaction between the creator and the end user to some extent.

@Abazigal Especially since creators have the ability to sell their shows directly to consumers as well. Want to make more money per subscriber and have a more direct relationship? Use Patreon. Want easier conversions but less control? Apple Podcasts.

No one is upset about the podcast cut since there are options 😉

@matt @Abazigal Patreon is actually very interesting because I bet they themselves don't know why they're being allowed on the AppStore even though the creators are literally selling digital goods.

@yury_mol @Abazigal Yeah it is a bit weird. Like Marco could never release Overcast if it had a link to atp.fm to buy a membership, but every single episode of ATP in Overcast has a link that opens a web view and lets me buy that.
