This is still an amazing planet, in spite of what the news says.

Different lighting in the same area.

Oceanscape. The top 2/3 of the image is orange sky. The bottom third is a series of rocky islands surrounded by blue water, in front of distant shoreline. In the lower right, we see a silhouette of a buoy. The water is not still, but it's also not causing huge waves to crash against the rocks.

Same location, just pointed differently, on a different day. Even cloudy days can be magnificent. I miss the ocean.

Oceanscape. It's a very cloudy day, but the sun is poking out enough to cast a silvery sheen on the water. We can see a series of rocky islands. The water is rough enough to sparkle in the available light. The scene is greys, black, silver.

On the Prospect side of the High Head Trail.

Oceanscape: it is a cloudy, blustery day, the ocean is lively. Granite rocks to the right of the scene are wet from the crash surf. A huge wave is curling back after having crashed against the high rock wall. Water from previous waves is draining from lower rocks.

A different sunset, but a closer view of that rock island with the cormorants. (The sun is setting off to the right.)

Oceanscape: in the foreground a large granite rock island is populated with cormorants. The top of the rock is white, that fades to the grey of the granite, then darker where the tide line is and lower is the fringe of seaweed clinging to the rock. A huge wave has crashed against the left of the rock and is high enough and just at the right angle to pick up the soft pink of the fading sunset and making it brighter than the waves and rocks facing us. Beyond, some more granite islands are visible, with white waves hitting against them. Late afternoon fog has been rolling in, making the warm light of the falling sun soft and diffuse.

@CStamp The ocean is my happy place. I find it so therapeutic. Just find a spot (I have several) and sit, listen to the surf, smell the sea, watch the Sea Lions, maybe see a whale (ONCE, in like 20 years).

@Mattcraig Nice. I really miss it. Any weather, as you mention, it's a happy place. Sandy, rocky... :)

@Mattcraig Oh, thanks, those are all stunning. That seal dipping down to the water with the baby (?) next to it is really being in the right place at the right time, and I love that silvery ocean with the whale tail. Your coastal plant life is so colourful.

@CStamp as usual, you just gotta be there. I go most weekends with good camera, long lens, and usually get same pics but occasionally I get something great. I have so many pics (my photo library is itching toward 90K) but most are lazy Lions laying around the same rocks. Of course, when babies are born things perk up.
