I have no idea what's going on here, but I rounded up the complaints and reached out to Apple for more info.
Seems like a very bad problem, especially if you have Stolen Device Protection enabled. https://9to5mac.com/2024/04/26/signed-out-of-apple-id-account-problem-password/
The first tip we got about this came in at 8pm ET, but we couldn't verify it. In the past two hours, the problem has gained steam on social media + has happened to at least two of us at 9to5Mac.
@ChanceHMiller Good to know I am not the only 9ne with the issue. I have yet to change my password. Waiting a bit before doing so
@ChanceHMiller Well, I tried to change my password anyway and I am faced with a “Cannot process. Try again” error after having succesfully completed all the requested identifications (device prompt, current password, sms and more…)
Oh well... I’ll try again in a fews.
@ChanceHMiller I have this now, too. Not if sure if I should just wait it out in case they can fix it, or try to change my password and hope it does not happen again.
@ChanceHMiller Got it on the TV halfway through a Fitness+ workout. That was fun.
@ChanceHMiller Bit me while traveling for bonus points
@ChanceHMiller The thing I didn’t realise initially was my Apple ID getting signed out of iMessage and FaceTime on my phone, even though everything else was working again and logged in. I needed to go into the respective section in the settings and reactivate my Apple ID there.
@jamesthomson @ChanceHMiller just had to do this for Screen Time in the family section (kids). They didn’t show, so I opened iCloud family section to make sure they were still there (they were) then back to Screen Time section and I watched them pop in. Then I got the flurry of app purchase requests that my son had made, which caused me to go looking through setting, again.
This is… tedious.
@ChanceHMiller also got signed out of all accounts a few days ago and had troubles signing back in. it has been fine since
@ChanceHMiller I just preemptively cautiously disabled it on my iPhone. Travelling now and do not want / cannot be without a functioning iPhone.
@ChanceHMiller I had this problem starting yesterday.
