Some people just don't understand following here....well, either that or they're rude as hell and just don't feel like following back.
If I follow you and you don't follow back, ill eventually unfollow you cause I'll just assume you don't wanna communicate with me.
Fedi works by follow relationships and if you don't follow, there's a chance you won't get posts sent to your instance.
Not following back is even more self-defeating here than on, say, Twitter. But people still don't care for conversation, they're fine with their cute little monologues.
@angelastella what do you mean self-defeating?
It cuts you off from more feedback than on other networks. And everyone that has something to say wants feedback, no matter what they say.
@angelastella I don't get that feeling, but
everyone has their own experiences I guess. I just know that since I'm on a single user instance, if people don't follow me and I don't follow them, posts don't federate.
Yeah, I think we should make a point of following (and boosting) people in single-user instances. There's a lot of prejudice about them. I try to do my part.
@angelastella @BeAware I'm new here can I ask what the prejudice is? I just wanna do my part in making people feel welcome!
AFAICT it boils down to "so they didn't find an instance that would tolerate them, huh?"
@angelastella @BeAware what! That seems so counterintuitive. That's the beauty of this place is that you can create the space you want.
