Can anyone recommend some popular #ambient music with female vocals, that are mixed well? A friend wants me to collab on an ambient track where I’d sing/come up with the vocal melody & lyrics. The examples he provided are not mixed well, so I’m having trouble understanding what he wants (unless he wants to mix it like his examples, in which case I’ll turn it down).
I’ve replied to my friend; thanks to everyone for your help!
Thanks for all the recs! I think I'm going to have to turn down his offer; everything I've heard that could be classified as ambient (not electronic or pop-adjacent) is out of my wheelhouse, so I don't think I could be enthusiastic enough about it to create something we both could be proud of. I think my strengths lie in melody and composition/arrangement, which ambient tends to eschew.
I did enjoy a lot of y'all's recs, tho. They are way cool.

@KydiaMusic if you haven’t heard this one it’s well mixed! Fairly ambient potentially. Good luck with it https://aroojaftab.bandcamp.com/album/vulture-prince
This is a fucking awesome tune. Ambient up to the last when it kicks in. If you can match it you're onto a winner
Cracking tune
Andy Stott - Numb
The whole album is a cracker if you don't know it. Highly recommend it
@Twoclownseating @KydiaMusic I may get flamed, but there is also Enya of course. :)
Great call. Never underestimate Enya. On point
I absolutely ADORE Enya. She is one of my underground influences, for sure. But she is way too structured and melodic to be considered ambient. I think she prefers to be classified as world/Celtic pop (as much as any artist desires to be "categorized," ofc)--she doesn't even like to be called New Age.
@KydiaMusic Perhaps Karen Vogt? https://karenvogt.bandcamp.com/music
@socool This is very nice!
@KydiaMusic Might be veering off-genre with these examples, but I thought of the following:

@RobertaFidora Oh now THIS is what I was hoping he was wanting (the Katie Gately track, esp)! It's mixed much closer to how I was thinking "vocal-focused" ambient would be mixed. Like you, I'm not sure if it would be considered ambient tho, since it's very melodic.
@RobertaFidora I'm also really digging the Active Child and Kelly Lee Owens music you recommended, so thank you!
@KydiaMusic Morgan Kibby (White Sea) also used to be in M83, which was how I got onto the Active Child remix.

@RobertaFidora ooh that makes sense; I’m a fan of M83 as well! Thanks for the bandcamp links!

Understand, but seriously check out that Andy Stott tune. You could go a long way with that vibe, knowing your style. Worth a thought for future things
Love as always Kydia
@Twoclownseating Yeah that Andy Stott tune was something else! I would say it's way more experimental than my friend was even wanting! Really cutting edge (to me, anyway). I'm flattered you think I could pull something like that off.
@KydiaMusic Here's one that I like, but the vocals are more vocalization/operatic than words, don't know if that's helpful for you.

@bluenagoon @KydiaMusic Hm. Wishlisted to explore further.
@KydiaMusic Lisa Gerard maybe has some works you might like
