Large majority of Canadians reject Trump's annexation overtures, poll suggests
The poll suggests a similar level of disdain among Canadians when asked if they would like to become American citizens, with 12 per cent saying yes to that question, and 82 per cent saying no.
@Snowshadow now, let's make sure they don't vote for the Canadian version of #WhiteChristianNationalism. Wouldn't that be awesome! Nice start banning US made weapons - way to go, Canada!
@RulesBuster
The guns are not banned because they are made in the US this is an expected addition to tighten our gun laws., although that would be icing on the cake.
The election will be very soon. Hopefully the CPC will be defeated.
@Snowshadow @RulesBuster
The real gun problem in Canada is guns being smuggled in from the US. We need to strengthen the border to keep them out.
YES!! Too many Guns are smuggled Into Canada from the US!
Trump needs to face facts !
@RulesBuster I should say though that the #Conservative Party of Canada is, like most Canadians, not white supremacist and not especially religious.
I'm sure that @Snowshadow has many other good reasons to desire their defeat even so...
Says a member of the #Conservative party.
Get out of town with your "not white Supremacist" nonsense.
Your party is exactly like the Republican party and funded by the same, IDU. That is why we call you Maple MAGAs.
PoiLIEvre is the most divisive leader of the CPC we have ever seen.
He spends all his time rage-farming and trying to divide Canadians instead of bringing us together.
So kindly take your lies elsewhere
@Snowshadow@mastodon.socialAll right, I'll say it in public then:
You have a nice evening too.
And you as well,
@RulesBuster , though I presume you've called it a day a few hours ago.
@mpjgregoire there's your mistake, "presume" rather cocky of you, eh.
@RulesBuster
You see right there a pretense of politeness in order to whisper sweet nothings, to gain trust in order to later sway your opinion. That's how many Cons work using manipulative tactics, He started into the conversation with a comment he knew would meet my approval, then pivoted to defend his party, targeting you, @RulesBuster . Don't be fooled by this.
You've figured out my modus operandi, @Snowshadow . I have found, over my years online, that jumping into conversations with people I hardly know to say, "You're wrong!" is considered by most people rude, and doesn't change anyone's mind anyway.
Instead, I try to seek agreement where I can, and to persuade people of what I think is true where they seem persuadable. Whether this is manipulative or respectful I'll the reader judge. I don't hide my politics: it's in my bio.

In this case, I deviated somewhat from my M.O. It troubled me that perhaps my silence on the suggestion that the #CPC is white supremacist implied acquiescence. So I replied to my original post.
It's a grievous slur, and it's false, @Snowshadow ; but I don't expect to persuade you that the party of #LeslynLewis opposes racial discrimination, if that's what you want to believe. I'm going to do more productive things with my time today.
Have a pleasant Sunday.

You may think you come across as refined and dignified however I suggest it is a thin veil you're using to hide your narrow mindedness..
Everyone is more than aware the CPC is now the #Harper Party, tied to #Trump and the #IDU, #HeritageFoundation, #Project2025, and Canadians do not want the hateful kool aid your party is offering.
If you weren't trying to "gently persuade" me why drop the hashtags about ancient history?

Canadians want an inclusive country, your party has proved to be the opposite
Poilievre supported the #Convoy that tried to overthrow our democratically elected government, tell me how can Canadians be expected to support a political party that defies the rule of law?
I say your party adds no value to our country. You should be ashamed for supporting an anti-democratic movement.
@Snowshadow Canadians benefit from parties with ethical values that can discuss and defend different approaches and policies on how to raise all Canadians. The current Conservative Party of Canada has absolutely abdicated its purpose and fundamentally failed Canadians. It is not a party of conservative values but extremists and fringe views. It is out of touch with Canadians. It is an embarrassment from Poilievre down and needs to be gutted and rebuilt.
@fsinn
I agree. I remember long before Harper conservatives were a fairly reasonable group but since then they lost their way.
Empty platform. No personal values.
Very sad to see.
@Snowshadow Absolutely. I know, I’ve voted for all 3 major parties at different times, based on my local candidate as well as the party, but I haven’t voted conservative since they killed the Progressive Conservative Party leaning into the worst for extremist votes.
@fsinn Same. I am an independent voter, have been since I was young. It's been decades since the thought of voting conservative crossed my mind, and at this rate I it will be a never again.
@fsinn @Snowshadow @mpjgregoire @RulesBuster The CFP might be the adult party in the room. Not on this cycle because they are new and largely unknown. If we get another crack at voting after this one it might become a viable choice.
@Globob
It will never happen.
@mpjgregoire I think some of your statements call for further information, should anyone not familiar with the CPC be reading this. Leslyn Lewis won her seat, but she lost, twice, as a candidate for party leader, so that she’s a member is not proof of anything. And she like others in the CPC are proudly attacking abortion rights based on their religious views, and say they *would* restrict abortion access.
Here (@ 2:30) trying to sell it:
@mpjgregoire @Snowshadow @RulesBuster
How soon we forgot the "barbaric cultural practices" hotline.
There was always a nutjob faction in the federal PCs. They were muzzled, at least as much as possible, back in those days. The most radical of them hung out in the Reform and SoCred parties.
Now the nutjobs are running the party and it shows.
A federal CPC government would be a carbon copy of Daniel Smith's train wreck writ large.
I disagree on both your points. Sure, not every single person in the party, but the current embodiment of the party is a disaster and offensive to many. Which is why the moment Trudeau announced he was stepping down, all the anti-Trudeau vote that had been inflating the CPC’s numbers dropped. The party leaned into the right wing extremists of the Wildrose et al abandoning the progressive conservatives.
@mpjgregoire
I think more should be made of that.
The irony is "we" are responsible for drugs getting into the US, but "we" should should stop guns coming in. I know it is both sides' job.
@Snowshadow @RulesBuster
