Finally said goodbye to my college/uni-era workstation today after almost 22 years together. Dual PIII-S 1.4Ghz (@ 1522Mhz), 2GB PC133 and a whopping 200GB of spinning rust in RAID1! Still running Lenny from when it last saw regular use ~2012. It felt like such a beast back then but time has not been kind; leaking caps and myriad hardware failures have sadly left it dead.
Those late Tualatin core PIIIs really were awesome. They destroyed the early Willamette P4s while comparatively sipping power and ran much cooler than the Thunderbird Athlons of the era. I fondly remember *finally* locating an affordable pair after many months of searching/saving up for them. Still my favourite rig so far, I think.
Now feeling slightly guilty that I disposed of a fairly rare motherboard which could have been resurrected with a re-cap but must… resist.. temptation… to… hoard!
